Default How hot inside a zo6

how hot is it inside your zo6 while driving local. Does it heat up a lot. Also what temp should the gauge say.

Another question. If you get on it could it smell a little like rotten eggs or like that natural gas smell. Plus it’s been real hot here anyway.

Close the windows, crank up the AC, all good inside. If mid 90's to 100 (like this week was here in Kelowna) I gotta get the fan top or second top speed for a while.
The gauge displays outside temp, there is no inside reading. It'll show what you set it to while setting, then return to outside temp.
Don't notice any smell when I get on it. Stock cats? Are they discolored?

I meant what should the temp gauge if the engine read.
Yes the AC works good. Just feel a lot of heat from engine and floor.

Dont know what the cats cats look like will have it on lift soon. I’m sure they are original.

Gotcha. My temp pretty much sticks just below 220 (say 205 - 210) regardless of outside temp. But I had my fans programmed to go on 10deg earlier than stock also.
I can't say I notice heat from anywhere such as the floor etc.
Def check the cats, one of mine was somewhat burnt looking at 40K

190-220 is what your engine temp should be reading in normal conditions. It can go as high as 235 on hot days in stop and go traffic while still being within normal operating range. Higher than that and you might want to check your cooling system, maybe a clogged radiator or something similar.

Insulation kit from Vettenuts would help.

I live in Texas so it gets hot here. Not hot like Hell, but beelzebub has a weekend cabin here.

My AC is great and makes the cabin cold enough so my beer in the console stays cool. My engine runs 190 to 212 and the high end is sitting in traffic, inching along.

I have a 165 tstat along with insulated tunnel plate (Elite Engineering) - and while the console was out laid down some additional heat shield - and then some more on the inside of the tunnel when I had the shifter out. Its still warm in there - but much improved from when I first got it.

Gut interior and insulate......you'll be surprised how much it helps.

It can get hot as hell inside my '99 FRC, I can't rest my right knee against the console on a hot day. But my warmed over LS6 also has LG long tube headers and an X-pipe with cats, although they are all ceramic coated. I have the Vette Nutz insulation kit and both the DEI tunnel thermal shield kit and their tunnel plate thermal barrier sitting on the shelves in the garage waiting for my lazy *** to gut the interior and drop the X-pipe and get them installed. Too many other "issues" right now that are eating up all my normal wrenching on the project car spare time.

I added FROST KING heat duct foam insulation to the floor pans and tunnel. I also added some FOIL BUBBLE Wrap on parts of the tunnel Especially on top of the tunnel. Arm rest compartment is no longer hell hot inside!!!. Made a SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE in heat from the engine and road. It also eliminated some road noise also.

Wasn't difficult to install and was not very expensive for the gains. While the seats were out and carpet removed, I cleand=ed the carpets with a little green machine. They looked and smelled new.

I have an 03 ZO6, and live on the Gulf Coast. Heat index in the summer is always 100++degrees. My engine says mostly in the 190 degree range. And my AC is so cold it will freeze my tush. Check you're Freon, you may need a jolt.
