My 2004 CE is my 16th Vette in 45 years.
Only time anyone made any nasty comment was when i had my 14 conv.
It may have been because of my Trump and NRA bumper stickers.
**** em. My wife and I make no apologies for working hard, and how we spend our money is our business. People who do the same, don't care, and instead admire our cars and motorcycles just as we admire their houses, boats, or whatever.
The only ones who bitch are those who blame others for their own life's failures, all of which are self inflicted.
We just purchased a new car for the wife, and instead of selling our truck, we donated it to a prison ministry group. Some members of the family, the dirtbags, went ******* beserk because we didn't GIVE it to them, because they needed a vehicle to replace the one they just blew up by not putting oil in it.
We both told them to **** off. Great way to not hear from them again, until they need something from us.

I really haven't run into people that criticize me because I own a Vette, but even if I did, it's really none of their business what I choose to spend my money on. If they don't like it, too bad.
Absolutely have. I’ve owned my C5 FRC for 3 months now, and there’s a few guys where I work who’ve accused me of buying a midlife crisis car (I’m 33, and I’ve wanted a Vette my whole life.) also one of those guys is 28 and has been known to lay down while at speed on his motorcycle whilst on the interstate. Hypocrite much?
beyond that I get a lot of people saying things like “must be nice” as if the $9500 I spent to buy the car was Breaking the bank when many of them drive cars that are 2-3-4 times as expensive.
Honestly I think many of them are just jealous that they don’t know how to have fun with this particular hobby. Maybe they lack the motivation or know how to own an older sports car. Maybe they’re afraid to buy a car with power? Whatever the case is I don’t really care. I get far more compliments from random strangers than anything else, and even if I didn’t, the ocassional “wave” from a fellow Vette owner would be all I’d need to be reminded that not everybody has a stick up their behind.
A friend of mine got into shall we say a "conversation" with someone at a stop light who didn't like friend going around him on the right while he was attempting a left turn. Followed him til the next stop sign then called him a "rich fuc*er". Friend had an 86 vert that had a salvage title and wasn't worth probably 8 grand on a good day (since totaled out). Must be the stereotype I guess. Also, living on the shores of Lake Superior, I see dozens of boats being pulled by pickups both local and from Illinois and Indiana every day in the summer that are worth WAY more than my Vette. Like others said, it's what you want to spend your $$ on.

In some parts of the country (too many regretably) with those two bumper stickers you would get nasty comments if you had them on a bike pedalling along trying to save mother earth.
Anyone been judged or categorized negatively for owning a Corvette? It has happened to me more than once and am having trouble understanding why. I am a person of average means and have worked hard to get something I have always wanted.
The Corvette is iconic and people respond to it as a car of privilege regardless of age and worth. That is what is awesome about them. Just bought a beautiful 99 and people react like I just bought a Ferrari instead of a $15k bargain super car. I try to be humble as I have been so fortunate and have had a lot of help and luck to be where I can afford a weekend car, but, it’s still cool. Can’t’t get away from it so settle in. People know!
When I was in my early twenties I had a new home built and shortly after purchased two used 1969 Corvettes. One was a DD and one was a salvage project. I had under $5k invested in the cars. Every week one of my co-workers would buy a new Oldsmobile or Buick for the same money but I got grief about being a big spender. A few years later I sold the Corvettes for a small profit and they traded their rusty cars for chump change. They finally understood when I told them I drove a Corvette because it was cheaper than buying a new car.

friends and coworkers.....I have always had fun cars ( not expensive just fun)....so my people don't really say anything to me. I do remember at a party once my wife said I fix old cars and then sell them...(shes not much of a believer but puts up with my hobby), her comments kind of embarrassed me a little and I told her that " I restore classic cars". I don't think she really sees the difference but it was significant to me. out on the streets it its only been positive

I live in Washington State In fact a lot of people just call this Northern California now unfortunately.
Anyways, I think you are missing the gist of this thread. We're not talking about random people at the mall or people at a car show. I'm talking about friends, family and coworkers. Well I can't speak on behalf of the OP, but I can speak for myself.
Nope I get it, and random people, friends, family and coworkers, never ever had a bad encounter with any of them. I've been a consultant and pulled up to clients in nice cars and almost always at least one of them is a car person. These days I'm a small business owner and I'll drive whatever I have to see people, doesn't matter. Just never had any issues with anyone about it.
Random guy at a gas pump a year or so ago gave me the "I wish I had your job".. He's putting gas in a decked out Jeep Wrangler that probably had more $ spent on aftermarket parts than I paid for the '99 coupe I was in. I didn't even say anything, just nodded and smiled.
The only really bad experience I had was when a dirtbag in his rusted out and beat up suburban tried to deliberately cause an accident. 4 lane road (2 in each direction), he on the right, me behind and on the left. He suddenly swerved n front of me and slammed on the brakes trying to cause a rear-ender. Then he started weaving back and forth taking both lanes. Trying to provoke me? I decided to find a different route.
It is interesting how these types take offense at others having a nice car, but won't take care of their own. His suburban was a rolling wreck, but probably close to 10 years newer than both my Vette and Tahoe. I maintain both, fix everything that breaks. My Tahoe is over 20 years old and has no rust. I would have no concerns with taking either on a cross country road trip.
I have had a Corvette since I was 18, and we (myself and wife)have always been on our own and paid for our own things. Yes, we may have had a loan but we made the payments without help. People will always comment on the nice things we work for. OWN IT, when a comment comes across, my favorite line is: That is the reason I go to work on Mondays and every other day. I am proud of what I have achieved. It was hard work...
I have NEVER had a person respond in any way other than respect... 99.9% of the time we then spin it back to the car itself.
I have had MANY people ask to take a picture with one of my cars, most of the time I ask if they want to sit in it for the picture. You would be amazed how that changes their day! I especially offer it to kids when their parents are trying to show how the kids need to respect the car. Good teachings and helping keep the new generations interested in cars...

I live in a senior community. People gather in the am in the clubhouse around a big table and drink coffee and talk about everything. Recently, after over 2 yrs here, a man who wears a big gaudy cross informed me that I idolized my car. What a loser.
