I have used them in the past, they are great tires... what power level are you at?... they will handle better (not that this is a huge deal for a radial but it is notable) and last a bit longer than some of the other drag radials out there provided you aren't doing burnouts and spinning them... they will also do fairly decent in rain compared to some other radials, that should be avoided if at all possible though
I have an '03 z06 stock wheels with Nitto NT05s, 275/40-17 front 295/35-18 rears.I have only put ~100 miles on them but so far I like them and would buy again,
Looking at the tread they look like they might be scary in the wet though and for that reason I would not want them for a DD
edit: I just realized you're taking about the 'R' drag radials, - never mind

I have what's left of a set of NT05 on my car. I was never impressed with them. They have lackluster grip and are super rumbly if driven in colder weather. They're decent in wet weather, but can only do so much in standing water. They're also howl a lot at the limit, more so than any other tire I've experienced. I suppose you could argue that it's a good thing but I thought it was annoying. The R isn't going to be any better, gonna have to open your wallet for something that hooks worth a damn.

You're talking about a completely different tire than the "R" version of the NT05. Can't even make a comparison really.
OP, what power level are you at? I ask because I've run both NT555R and currently the NT05R on the back of my car. The NT555R's were EXCELLENT for me at the 500 RWHP range, and did fairly well at the 750 RWHP range though I felt that was approaching their limits. I bring the NT555R up because it's a bit better all around tire IMO than the NT05R which is decidedly stickier, but you lose overall life and I wouldn't think about driving in the rain with them. I only even had to slow down in the rain once with the NT555R's and that was probably the worst downpour I've ever driven in. As for the NT05R, I put a set on my car a couple years ago and was doggone impressed with them coming from some Mickey ET Street SS tires. They hooked a lot harder than I expected considering the mid 800's my car was making. But as I said before, I'm not even going to chance driving in the rain with them.
380whp at best here. Never dyno'd, just spouting numbers based on what others have made.
Gave the NT05R another peek and it looks like I may have been recollecting the 555R. I recall a few friends who had them and they were not impressive, MT was in another world compared to them from what I recall. I stand corrected on the R.
Hey buddy, on my last c5z when i was around 380rwhp.
the 555r was the best all around, I loved them, went thru 3 sets. About 5k miles per set is what they would last. I would run them about 18-20psi cold, year round. They would hook but wear out fast cause I would spin and accel at the same time unless they were super warm.
for a non z06 with stock gears they would be great under 400rwhp
on a z I would on run stock or bolt ons.
this is only if you wanna hook 1st.
I'm on my 2nd c5z, I would never own a vette with street tires, just my opinion. Seen too many in the grass
