Default The dreaded flat spots!

I have had nothing but good to say about the Hankook Ventus tires on my Z06, but recently I started getting a vibration at road speeds so I thought a tire out of balance. I took it in and had them balanced and the tech is telling me I have flat spots and that one tire in road force test has a hard spot on it. UGGHH! Have any of you experienced this? This is not my daily driver but I usually stretch her legs almost every weekend. Do I have to store the dang thing on Jackstands when not using or what???

I took a 1 1/2" thick sheet of pink styrofoam and cut it into 2ft X 8 ft lengths and secured them to the garage floor with duct tape where the wheels are when the car is parked. After a while (weeks) the tires settled into the styrofoam and it supported the bottoms of the tires like those tire dollies that cost about $40 each. Of course the sheets don't have wheels so the car can't be moved around but they seem to serve the purpose to keep the tires from getting flat spots..

Obviously a problem could develop with any tire, but I have been running Hankooks for years and not had a hard spot develop. My car does sit for extended periods and has shown some flat spotting when I drive it again, but that usually works itself out after a few miles of driving.

I would agree with Vetteman. My '66 sat for weeks and when I got a chance to drive it I would have flat spots, but they would disappear within a few miles when the tires heated up.

As far as I know, flat spots on a radial tire is fairly rare. Bias ply tires were prone to it are they sure you didn't separate a belt? It could be a defective tire.

I haven't had any flat spots in several years of running on hankook tires, but I keep the car parked on a double layer of carpeting under each wheel.

I think it may also have something to do with the compound of the tire, Hankook & Nitto are foreign made tires, I also have Nitto NT420S on my truck & are noticeably stiffer when cold or if my truck sits for a few days.

It is rare, but I have had flat spots on modern radials after 6 month storage. Over inflating them must help, since I haven't had a flat spot since I started doing it.

I just drive mine everyday . 3rd set of rear Hankooks put on yesterday. I did find that if a run them at 30 psi it wears the centers out faster than the edges, I dropped them to 28 and they seem to wear more evenly.
