Default HELP!!! Z-51 shocks over base shocks?

Being new to the c-5 world, what would the ride difference be between 75,000 stock base shocks to 25,000 mike Z-51 shocks???
Thanks cruzbox

You are coming up on end of life on the stockers. Typically 80k, so it is time. Cost for the Z51s? Everyone typically upgrades to the C6 Z06 unless going to coil-overs.

Get C6Z shocks. Rock Auto. Think I paid $225 shipped for them a couple months ago.

Next tire opportunity-get off the run "craps". These cars handle so much better with the better designed shocks that are available today, vs. when the C5 rolled out.

As for tires-everyone has their favorite and resons. It comes down to what you plan to do with the car and your wallet.

I speak from your angle. Was on all base, and then made these changes. Night and day difference.

so I recently changed to 04 zo6 shocks and then added the z06 sway bars....

the z51 shocks will be firmer then the base shocks for sure. the real handling difference will come with installation of the z06 sway bars. I have the z06 springs but will not be using them. the c6 zo6 shocks and the 04 z06 shocks will be much firmer for sure.

whats the price on z51 shocks ? hopefully $100 or less...…

perhaps put the zo6 sway bars in first then stiffen the shocks, it also really easy to put these in

Default Thanks 👍

Thanks for all your feed back, I’m trying to get away form the car wanting to dart around after hitting bump on the off ramps . (It really puts a smile on my face dipping in to the ramps)Will probably never have it at a track. One of the reasons why i wanted a c-5 , always wanted a go cart. If I have to give up a bit of handling to gain a soft bump ride I will.

I upgraded to C6 ZO6 shocks and Sway bar kit on my 97 C5 base. Make a huge difference in handle corners.

2013 C6 Z51 Sway Bars!

Greetings Friends,

We have the Z51 sway bars kit with the Genuine GM bushings for $257.95

The reason people use these bars most on the C5’s and the C6’s is because unless you’re running 325 width tires in the rear, these are the way to go. These bars don’t cause the vehicle to ride “stiffer” per se. They are mostly for the cornering ability.

You know that feeling when you’re going into the turn and the car leans pretty heavily? These bars are meant to make the vehicle feel flatter in the turns and corner much better in the turns. Another advantage is the handling when you’re coming out of the turn. When you come out of the turns you will not be fighting the wheel as much as you would with the stock bars. These bars, since they’re thicker, make it easier all the way through the turns.

Below are the specifications and comparisons of the C6 Z51 sway bars compared to other Corvette suspension packages.

Corvette Sway Bar Specifications

Suspension Front (mm) Rear(mm)

C5 base 23.0 19.1
C5Z51 (97-99) 25.4 21.7
C5Z51 (00-04) 28.6 23.6
C5Z06 30.0 23.6
C6 base 25.5 17.5
C6Z51 31.0 25.4
C6Z06 31.0 28.0

We offer these sway bars with the 2013 C6 Z06 shocks. Also, whether it is a C5 or C6, coupled with the 2013 C6 Z06 shocks it makes a total different handling package. This package speaks for itself as we have many testimonials from many customers from whom we sold these to here on the forum!

To order, please call 484-334-8833 or go to the link below to order!

10387838 – Front stabilizer bar bushings (2)

Complete kit front and rear is $257.95.
Use part number c6z51bars on our website.

2013 C6 Z06 Shocks!

We sell the 2013 C6 Z06 shocks for $309.95. Many C5 customers ask us why we don’t recommend the 2004 shocks over the 2013. Many people also say that the C6 shocks are only developed for the C6. If you look at all of the basic suspension components between the C5 and C6, they are very much the same. The reason we don’t recommend the 2004 Z06 shocks over the 2013 C6 Z06 shocks is simply because of the price and customer feedback. We have many customers who have tried both sets of shocks and cannot tell the difference between the two, so why not purchase the lesser expensive set!

For the C5, not C5 Z06, we also recommend the C6 Z51 sway bar kit. The C6 Z51 sway bar kit coupled with the 2013 C6 Z06 shocks is our most popular suspension and handling upgrade for the C5.

To order, please call 484-334-8833 or go to the link below to order!

||--Genuine GM 2013 C6 Z06 Shocks--||

10313647 – Z06 Front Shocks
25819268 – Z06 Rear Shocks

Both sets of front and rear shocks (4) $309.95 total.
For the shocks on our website, use part number c6z06shocks.

The C6 Z06 shocks will work on stock C5’s and C6’s without modification.

Thank you,
Gene.

C6 Z51 sway bars with C6 Z51 shocks on stock C5 tire sizes IMO would be best for your usage.

How does your car respond to a corner/ off ramp that’s bumpy? I have no doubt that it’s a lot better with the up grades on smooth roads.
Also how stiff is it when you hit some bumps in the road?

Soooo...the old school test of shove up/down on the fender several times then let go....if the car bounces multiple times, then the shocks are bad but if it returns to stable within one up/down cycle then they are still good no longer applies?
If so, given no harsh ride/jarring impacts, no visible leakage, etc, then how does one tell if the shocks are “bad” other than a mileage based calculation?

(and no, thats not meant as a snarky question - I’m old school to a degree, so I really dont know.)

so the stiffer shocks will make the bumps be felt more...now the funny thing is the stiffer sway bars will negate this to some effect since they will transfer the movement to the opposite wheel and act as sort of a dampner. so my stiff shocks didn't feel so stiff when I added the z06 sway bar..

if you are concerned about the bumps do the z51 shocks and the z06 sway bar. in any event do the sway bar first

I replaced my shocks with base C6 shocks. A little softer then C6Z shocks but still designed for a car heavier then a C5. I also replaced the plastic end links with the metal ones at the same time. A very nice improvement. Your runflats are hurting your ride quality.
