I'm getting the Active Handling and ABS messages on the dash screen with my 2000 FRC. based on all I've read on this forum, I assume the EBCM is the culprit. Also it appears they are no longer available new, so I guess my choice is either ignore the messages or find a used EBCM at a ridiculous price with no guarantees. Unless I missed something, is that a correct assumption? I think I can live without the Active handling and even no ABS, but I'm wondering if there's a way to get rid of the messages?
I think there's a YT vid on how to fix it cheap. Takes time to get to the module, but if you can solder, you're golden.
I think there's also a how-to here on the forum.

If it just showed up, it could be something as simple as a low battery. As far as I know there is no 'do it yourself' fix for the pre 2001 EBCMs. I had a similar problem with my 2000 DBGM convertible and found the problem was simply a bad ground at the driver's side brake lines connection. (It took a huge amount of detective work). Charge your battery fully and see if that helps..
If all else fails and you want a replacement, John Llewllyn has a couple of the early ones (used) that he'll stand behind. It's likely he wants about $!500-1600 each. John's number is 865-604-0498.

This.....after either charging it up (best with a maintainer that can de-sulphurize it), or replacing it if needed, take it for a drive, and find a nice un-inhabited flat, straight road, and at about 60mph-ish, stand on your brake pedal, like you're trying to lock the brakes. Report your findings.
The very first thing to do is pull the engine codes. Right now you do not know what is causing the problem. The DTC's will send you in the direction of what to look for. You could have a loose TC wire going to the wheel, a bad SWPS, a EBCM going out, a TAC going bad, a low battery--check the voltage with the engine off-12.5V or better--or a bad ground to the EBCM. I have had a SWPS sensor problem on my car for several months but when the TC cable came loose from the wheel mount it caused the light to all come on (ABS/AH) and the reduced engine power. My fix was easy for that problem I simply tighten the clip on the harness and installed it, the SWPS is still a not working but since I mainly autocross/HPDE it is off anyway. Regarding the battery, many on the forum have put in new battery into the car and still have low battery problems (alternator going bad) so always take a VOM and measure the voltage with the engine off.
Gordy- Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll check the codes again. My next move is to check the sensor connections at the wheels as soon as I get time to pull the wheels.
Unless you have a brand new battery, I would recommend that you just change out your battery for a new one. It will cost almost nothing and in my case, it completely fixed the problem. Please let us know.
