I agree. I have a 1991 that is supercharged. I do not abuse it. Sometimes I will put the gas pedal down and let it go for a bit, but that is not abusing it. I just like the feel of being pushed back into the seat as it accelerates, and knowing the power is there. It is not raced, I do not do street drags, and very seldom spin the rear tires. After all, I am 76 years old and have outgrown most of that.

I love both of your color choices on each Vette. I believe i'm going back to a Z06.. I owned a new 02 Red Z and then a new 04 Comm. Edition Z06 until 2010 and this time i was going to try and find a one owner slightly modded automatic since i'm older and have started in with arthritis. But i think i would enjoy a stick shift C5 Z06 more because we all love to shift gears. I found a low mileage red Z with mod red interior i'd like to own but its way up in the cold country like this 02 modded Mag Red Vette i found. I will just keep my eyes open.

thank you for the nice comments and i hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving!

SlingShotYellow I'm sure you are well aware of the two Corvette dealers in our area, but just in case you aren't check out Corvette World and Corvette Warehouse. Corvette Warehouse is were I picked up my yellow 03Z.

Thanks, i have been to Corvette World but forgot about the Corvette Warehouse.. so thank you..

I went to both Corvette sales site and they are heavy on C6 models for sale at this time.. i will keep a check thru the remainder of the year

If i don't work something out on this Mag Red C5.. i wrote the owner and ask him to get it tuned before someone buys his car and to contact me if he does get it tuned correctly.

thanks again!

Slingshot, I was thinking about this one more. I am wondering if it is not really the tune. Assuming he used the Lingenfelter parts like he says... They've probably installed their parts on hundreds of cars. They know what the tune needs to be for a given parts combination. Those guys are pros. Did he say what code it was showing when he cold starts it?

Thanks for trying to figure this car out; i left a message in the last couple of days but haven't heard back from the owner and i know its the Holiday weekend so maybe by Monday i will learn more about the codes its throwing out. . He didn't tell me a code on our phone call just that he could correct it by hooking up his computer or some sort of device to the car while it was having this issue SO it made me think it was a sensor? or a part not working properly. Tuning and mods are new to me since i kept my two C5 Z06 Corvettes stock.

I will let you know if he contacts me back, I told him i would consider the purchase if he took it to Lingenfelter ( in which he had mentioned they are in his state of Indiana and they will tune it for no charge) or even wait till spring since he mentioned bad weather and ice in is state.

Thank you sir!

When I see HP numbers, I generally figure it means RWhp. Even what you describe above isn't there, yet somehow my skepticism is unwarranted. It's painfully obvious that car isn't tuned, yet the HP claims are at the upper end of realistic.

My comment stands, I'm skeptical.

Depends on what you want and what you can do yourself.

Paying someone else to sort a headache? Hard Pass.

If a stock/near stock car statisfies you - BUY ONE.

Do you want to extensively modify a stock car? Maybe take another look.

I can tell you first hand it’s 4x more expensive to start from stock and even worse when paying a shop.

My biggest folly was falling into the ‘buy the nicest unmolested car’ trap. Because I DO NOT WANT a stock and unmolested car. I want a racecar persay. A hot rod and if anyone’s ever owned one in their lives then you know what that kind of car comes with from a headache/monetary standpoint. You near always have to do some sorting and change things around from a personalization standpoint, BUT it ends up being soooooooo much cheaper when someone else pays for it.

I want heads / cam and a blower. That’s like $8-10k depending. The premium pulled over a stock vette? 2-3k

If that argument alone meant I now have a supposed $7k to invest into a built shortblock - I’d be WAY further ahead. Even if I bought it blown up.

Turn your own wrenches and the money goes further.

So if you’re asking strangers on a forum if that’s a good deal then you probably don’t know much about cars, if at all the c5 platform itself. Truth is the things that power the cars are just as cheap as the vehicles the power plants share. Tuning LS cars can be done in the sleep these days. They aren’t some magical fiberglass (I know) unicorn of a car.

Get one. Have reserves on hand if not 100%. Don’t buy what you aren’t ready to commit to.

and FWIW the most stock cars get ragged on the most. Modded cars means someone cared to invest into them. You know what DOESN’T break parts? Wheelspin.

Everything that’s stock is cheaply made, compromised in design and materials for cost and usually ends up in my trash can.

I wasn't commenting on his car. And I was stating 500 HP as tested by factory methods, which is flywheel hp with accessories attached. You spend the money on the best heads, and get a cam combination that optimizes your C.R. and you will get around 460-475 RWHP which translates to at least 500 vs the 405 the factory says is stock, and averages about 360 RW. Nobody knows the exact difference in factory rating and RW, but it's pretty easy to extrapolate. If anything, I was being conservative.
