The short answer to the OP is... YES! OE is too tall. Too loose. Too much throw.
Here's my 'hybrid'. MGW shifter with a straightened C6 lever mounted to it, toped off with a C4 ****. Medium throw. Low effort (did the detent mod too). Very precise. Slightly dampened by the C6 lever. Perfect for me!
