Default 2000 C5 LS1 Head swap

Hello All!
I’m doing a heads, cam, ls6 intake on my 00. Already have LT’s and CAI. I’m looking into buy 243’s on eBay, I’m seeing a listing that’s selling remanufactured 243s. in their description it states what engines those heads will fit on and it shows 01-04 LS1. Why wouldn’t those fit on my 00? Is my real question... I thought all 243s bolt directly onto the ls1.

BTW: how much power do y’all think I’ll make with 243s, Brian Tooley Stage 1 cam, ls6 intake manifold, LT’s, CAI, Tune.

The heads will bolt right up. We carry ported versions that can help your build out. A solid heads/cam car should be able to pull around 400 or more rwhp depending on how aggressive the cam is.

probably won’t do the ported since I’m trying to stay on the cheaper side of things,
so if I buy 243 heads from a 2008 5.3 Yukon, they should bolt right up? No issues?

I didn't think they used 243s for 5.3l. Should be stamped on front of heads. Another thing to consider. If you're going to bother to replace your heads, it would improve your results if you can increase compression to around 11:1 by milling the heads to around 59cc. A quality CNC port is worth the money, IMO.

I bought 243’s off a Yukon. Did a valve job and waiting to install now. Yes they will fit and bolt up.

I had a 2013 work van with a 4.8 vortec engine, out of curiosity I looked and saw 799 heads, and googled 799 heads, apparently they are pretty much 243 heads, but without the lightweight valves.

By the way the little 4.8 moved that fully loaded van much better than a 2008 van with a 4.8, however the older van has a 4L80-E and the 2013 van had a 6L80-E.

So if looking for 799 heads (bargain 243 heads) check the 4.8 engines also.

Send them off to Advance Induction for a CNC porting, milling and fresh valve job, you could have some amazing heads!

Yeah they did, around 07-08, think the aluminum 5.3s def did. More common on the Gen4 5.3s from what I remember. Can get some cheap at junk yards that dont know what they have.

I paid 300 for mine out of salvage yard. I pulled myself. Mine were 40,000 mile pull offs from a rollover. I reused stock valves. Had them milled just a hair to make sure deck was flat. Installed Texas speed double springs with titanium retainers. I’m going with the 224r cam. Just waiting to install it all.

What ever you do, make sure you get the heads checked at a machine shop for valve leakage. I never just slap used heads on a block, been there done that. I learned a hard lesson when I was 16 and money was super tight. But I was 16 and learning. I also have a 2000 and found 243 heads from a 2004 z06 with only 20k miles, but I will still be taking them to a machine shop first.
