Default How does this even happen?

I have no words. It might seem like a small scratch to most, but this car hasn't had a single other scratch or ding like this. I park super far away from, but I guess I need to park even further now. I dont even know how this happened?? This has happened to my 89 mr2, my B5 Audi A4, my e92 BMW and now this?? I must have really pissed off the big guy up there.
I might be able to get the scratch out but no clue about the chunk that's missing.
EDIT: the bsm was already damaged when I purchased the car, I should have mentioned that originally, but it just slipped my mind as I was more concerned with the long scratch, sorry for any confusion that my mistake has caused.

EDIT#2:
you can see in this picture from about a month ago, you can see there is no scratch on the side, and if you look closely you can see the damage on the bsm

How that happened is it looks to me like some fine upstanding young(?) citizen took a key to your car for whatever reason, probably related to envy or otherwise.

Gotta love it. Lol. At least its relatively small, but I still can't look at the passenger side of my car without noticing it. ):

I'll take a guess.. Since its happened to every car you've had.. at least the last4 you've owned. its possible that you might want to re think your parking style.. Parking way out only draws the bane of some jealous immature people both young and not so young. I dont have a single nick in my car, or the last car, or the car before that. I try to park smart. I try to say as inconspicuous as possible, I park smart. where the parking spot has a barrier on one side. I try to park next to a car that has more to loose than I do. I never park next to a 2 door car, or a windy day I wont park . That could have been a run away shopping cart, or a deliberate act. by the look, it does not look like some one keyed you.. it looks like someone or something hit you. . I see a really good ding in the side molding.. Not sure iif that was part of this incident, but that was not from a Key.. and that impact that removed the paint was significant. How does this even happen, It could have been an accident, or on purpose, in one case ( unlikely an accident ) on the other hand if done on purpose, the person had a reason.. Again , I would rethink your parking technique since if it was on purpose, parking out there gave the perp, good cover , away from everyone. I would never do that myself.. Just trying to answer your question with some logic and some speculation.
Bill

I don't think so. Look at the door trim molding piece. It's scuffed and has paint transfer.

Either way, to fix that properly would be very expensive. Especially metallic.

That's a strange looking scratch. Doesn't look like it came from another car. Too fine and sharp. Could it have been something in your garage?

It's weird, to me you have two drilled holes in the BSM? Then it looks like brown paint between the holes. Then, someone keyed your car. If it was a another vehicle or shopping cart, the scratch would be straight, not wavy. But, on the other hand, that had to be a mean key to take a chunk out of the fiberglass.

The OP didn't mention the scratch on the BSM. What part of a car leaves a fine, sharp scratch that changes direction.

I'm guessing he was so focused on the long scratch that he didn't even notice the other damage.

As far has how what does what? we'll likely never know. Generally the type of people that do that to someone else's car and just leave usually aren't driving the nicest cars on the roads. Could have been an old piece of **** jalopy with parts hanging off of it or other pre-existing damage. Like a 1978 ford courier , I don't know. As far as the scratch not being straight there's a thousand things that can cause that. Hell, they're may have been a stick laying on the ground.

the paint transfer on the bsm was already there when I purchased the car, I planned on removing them anyways so it didn't really bother me too much.

too low for anything in my garage, and also too low for a sideswipe situation, I'm more confused on how the big chunk was taken out lol

My BMW got sideswiped and there were multiple scratches down to fibreglass, not just one small line. The bsm was already scratched before I purchased the car, I am removing it eventually so it didn't bother me too much.

I should have mentioned that the bsm was already scratched when I purchased the car, that was my mistake with the original posting, as you said I was much more concerned with the long scratch than mentioning the bsm.

Looks to me like a sharp object (like a key) dragged from the door toward the wheel and when it jumped the gap, took a chip out of the quarter panel?
Sorry to see it; I'd be just as upset as you if it were mine.
