You can just attach the brake wire to the negative (black) wire in the wiring harness, it does the same thing. No need to get into the parking brake area with wire extensions. I've done this on two cars with no problems. I saw this method in several videos on YouTube.
In my research I found that this varies by brand of head unit. The Kenwoods can be done as described above- brake wire to ground. I remember seeing one brand (can't remember- Pioneer maybe??) that can not be done this way and had a speed sensor wire requirement. I went Kenwood so I never looked further into ways around that.
I've used this phone mount in all my vehicles, and buy it as Christmas gifts for friends and family. Easy, secure, *1-handed* operation. Stays put too.
Thanks for the pic. That’s actually the first place I mounted my phone, but found it getting in the way of my ignition keys and fob. Then I went with a ProClip mount that attaches near the right side of the HVAC on the bezel. Now I don’t want to see my phone at all, decisions decisions.
My kenwood dnx893s has two usb cables for android auto or apple CarPlay and usb power, so I got a a flush mount usb extender from amazon and it fits perfect in the 12 v port in the console. I have short usb c cables for my phone and it stays in the console. I do not like phone mounts, they are not my style and with bluetooth and hands free, what's the point of a mount?

Here is a picture, this is actually a power only port that I used to have, but you get the idea, that's where the double usb is that is connected to the radio.
As others have said, I had the carpet out and ran the camera wires to the back, I did have to drill a small hole but I sealed it with RTV and no one will ever see it behind the carpeted panel. I found a screw for the license plate light and mounted the camera to that, looks almost factory, and blends in great.

1. Charging your phone and/or keeping it topped off
2. Higher quality audio than Bluetooth
3. Wont forget your phone as easily
4. Some apps, like Waze, display additional info than what is on the screen.
