Default Gas cap

this my sound like a very STUPID question. When putting the gas cap on after refueling. When turning you hear clicking, how many clicks should you turn it to and does it snug down till the clicking stops. I have always turned it only a few clicks on the vette, never stops or snugs down. Other cars turned till clicking stops and cap is tight. Really feels stupid asking this question. Check eng. light on but no code showing on display.

I believe it is only one click, it should say so on the gap cap itself. Anyway, I had the same problem as you, wherein I would put the gas cap on but could take it right off no matter how much it clicked. Like you I got not codes (I didn't get a check engine light though). I simply bought a replacement gas cap and the problem was solved. Sorry I don't remember the part number, but it wasn't hard to find online and it was only a few bucks.

Get a new cap - not worth the headaches for such a cheap replacement part... I have seen many posts that get the CEL due to a gas cap... Replace it, and you should be fine. Get an OEM one from GM.

One click should be enough. I usually waited for the second click when I had my C5 and never had a problem.

The cap on my Chevy truck says 3 clicks and that is what I do on the Vette too.

It's set for a certain torque so if it clicks once or 10 times it's good.

A couple clicks works for me...I remember you posted on the Tech Forum the other day about this issue...you HAVE to pull the code for your CEL...it won't appear automatically !!...I always run Shell 93 Octane but if you don't drive it hard and the engine doesn't knock you'll probably be fine !!...BTW, I'll be retiring to Fort Myers or Punta Gorda in a few years...are there any Corvette Clubs in that area ??

Check the o-ring on your gas cap....most likely it is all cracked and not sealing. A new gas cap will solve this.

Wrong. The torque for the cap is set at the first click, like a torque wrench. As long as you keep turning it, it will keep clicking.

went to O’Riellys and they did a code check, new cap was needed. O ring had several cracks showing. Will the CEL reset itself. It was suggested I pull the neg battery cable for a while and it will reset. To your question, there are two clubs in pg. both have waiting lists.

do not run the vette hard but going to switch to 91 or 93 instead of 89 and see if there is a difference.

Was it a P0442 DTC they found ??...that is a small EVAP leak...will clear by itself after the 3rd time the EVAP monitor test has run OR after 40 warm up cycles...I believe I posted how to read the DTC’s through the DIC...pushing the RESET button will clear the code...keep us posted if it comes back...I run Shell Premium...exclusively...waiting list for a club ??...maybe I’ll start my own...know any good real estate agents in the area??... thanks !!

You can read and reset CEL codes from the DIC, sitting in your driveway.

this morning while out I stopped at my vette doctor. Explained what was taken place, took his gizmo to check code, yes 442. Pushed gizmo and cleared code. Light off all is well. And told him I replaced cap yesterday.
yes waiting list for clubs, lot of vette sin ares and clubs only take a limited number of members. Google corvette clubs in Punta Gorda. Know of one also in Ft. Myers.
Funny you should ask about Real Estate Agents here. Know of an excellent one, ME !!! LOL. Was one in PG for 10 years, now retired. Yes I know several that I would use myself. When your ready just let me know and I will hook you up.
