Default Wheels

Have a C5 and want to put new wheels (Aluminum) on. I check the size of tires and the front says 245/45 R-17 99w and the rear says 275/40 R18 99w. Does the 99w mean I buy a 9.5 inch wheel or a 10.5 inch wheel or is there another way to find out what wheel is really there. They are stock wheels.

Your stock wheel sizes are 17x8.5 in the front and 18x9.5 in the rear. The wheel sizes are indicated on the back side of the spokes - you have to take the wheel off to see it.

Jack is right on the stock wheel sizes. Z06 versions are different. You don't have to stay with the stock wheel sizes unless you want to keep your existing tires. I have that predicament.... The tires that came on my car when I got it about six months ago are in excellent shape. I will get new wheels eventually, but I'll wait to wear the tires more since I want wider wheels.

The "99W" on the tire sidewall refers to a load index and a speed rating for that particular brand and model of the tire. The two numbers (99) are the load index and the "X" identifies the speed rating. For the 99W tire rating, that means it will carry a max load of 1709 lbs and has a max speed of 168MPH. Doesn't have anything to do with the wheel diameter or width.

To the OP. This is the time to do some serious research, You need a preliminary budget. ( what you think you want to spend ) .
1 )Wheels can make a dramatic difference in your car. It is the single most popular modification that personalizes your car and separates it from other stock C5's in your area.
The next thought is do you want bigger wider tires? when degerming the size of wheels you want, you need to be sure that tires are available in those sizes.
You also have to make sure that the wheels you pick will fit a C5 with proper backspacing, etc. .

There is a lot to this expenditure, but have no fear, there are enough people here to help you make an educated choice. Ill just give you some food for thought, be careful of inexpensive wheels that look good. Cheap wheels can easily bend, or crack.. there is a lot of junk out there, Chinese knockoffs … You should learn this adage of mine " I can't afford to buy anything too cheap " it just cost too much in the end. Bend or crack a cheap wheel you loose the cost of that wheel have to buy another cheap wheel that will do the same thing. and you have three other cheap wheels that might do the same thing. Now you go out and buy what you should have bought in the first place. and now you have to go out and have them mounted again.

So get on a path to get new wheels but do it with help from people who know every facet of this purchase.. you will find them here.
so decide on stock size wheels or upgraded wheels
do you want to keep the tires that are on there now, then you only have one choice, that's stock size wheels
It how you get started on the research. we will help you through this and welcome to the forum
