Oil Catch Can
How many are using an Oil catch Can? And why? Are they REALLY needed? I hear about the blow bye, but not sure where it ends up. Is it all over the engine?

The oil vapors are sucked back into the engine through the throttle body. When I replaced my stock throttle body with a BBK 80mm unit, I saw how much residue had built up on the inside of the stock T/B. I installed a catch can because I did not want to foul up the new T/B. A month later I checked to see how much had been trapped in the can and it was about a 1/2 teaspoon. Proof enough to me that the catch can works. It's an easy install - even for me as it seems I have the Midas touch in reverse - that took maybe 45 minutes. As a bonus, it looks cool as well.

Yikes! I'm convinced. Even though I'm all thumbs, I think I can handle the installation. One other question, will it work with the fuel rail covers?

I used one on the ‘03 I had and yes, it does do a good job of capturing oil that would normally go into the throttle body and intake. Install is easy as long as you hook the hoses up correctly and there is no problem using the stock fuel rail covers. I used an Elite Engineering catch can on my car.

I installed the Moroso catch can recently on my 02Z. Everything fit perfect and I didn't need to modify anytjing.

I used the Elite Engineering one as well. Fuel rail covers fit fine.
You can see the catch can in the lower middle of the photo.

I'm assuming the oil drain works like a Fujimoto oil drain valve. Just attach a tube and open the valve???

I didn't watch the video but.... some blowby is "normal" and not really a big concern for a relatively stock street car. That said, catching some of those blowby vapors is a good thing, as long as you're willing to check on and empty it regularly. I've seen cases of overfilled cans or cans that froze (if you park the car outside), which then mess up the pcv system..but again, as long as you check on it regularly, it should never be an issue.
Lots of options out there that all basically do the same thing, you don't need to spend $300 on something that is basically a filter or air/oil separator. Get one that keeps the PCV valve in tact to retain stock functionality, looks good to you and meets your budget.

Depends on which one you use. The Elite Engineering one has a reservoir that unscrews (basically the bottom 2/3 of the unit) to empty. It is a very well made piece.

I just did the Moroso oil can with AN fittings & black braided lines, it looks great!
The reason I did it was NOT because I am running major HP but.... I just updated my LS1 intake to the LS6 intake, I spent much time cleaning it before I put on my car and after seeing the insides of a stock intake on a stock car, I decided that there is no way in hell I was going to run my new intake that is spotless clean without an oil catch can.
More over, about 6 months ago I took my throttle body off for a good cleaning, there was oil deposits on the intake side of the throttle body. When I took off the throttle body again for my LS6 swap, the fresh oil drops reappeared.
This convinced my for sure to do the catch can and has nothing to do with amount of HP the engine has.

When I did mine I had around 7000 miles on the car, I completely washed the inside of the intake out, the oil caught is after 3 summers & I only drive around 600-700 miles a summer & you can see I collected more than 1/2oz, first black mark on the right vial is 1oz on just street driving. I haven't checked inside the intake since I installed the catch can, an Elite Engineering & not sure if they really help but my exhaust is really clean never had to clean any carbon from the inside of my exhaust tip, that picture is 9000 miles.
