what is the biggest tire that will fit on the rear of my c5 without changing wheel size . thanks
Looks like you have the polished thin spoke factory wheels? If so they're 9.5" wide. I been researching the same and seems like a 295 (factory is 275) is the safe limit.
If I were to put a 295/30x18 tire on the base rims. I would make sure it had a flexible side wall as one with a stiff sidewall could give you some handing problems. Also, check each manufacturers sidewall width as there are a few companies (i.e. Federal) whose 285 is as large or larger than some other brands 295.

every tire size wall dimention is shown in the tire size molded into the sidewall. The middle number is the sidewall height. in the case above 295/30/18 the 30 means 30% of the 295 . the last number is of course the wheel rim, diameter. a 295/35/18 would mean 35 % of the 295 ( meaning a higher sidewall. ) a 295/25/18 would mean 25% of the 295 or a much lower sidewall profile. This is a Universal sizing tire measurement. It is not modified by and Manufacture. the only variance is the section width which is the widest part of the tire and not the thread width. Some tires are more square meaning the section width and the tread width are the same ( eg. Goodyear ). but many tire have a wider section width then the tread width ( eg. Nitto ) anyone looking to " hook up" in a "straight line" needs a higher sidewall to capture Kinetic energy. Drag races use 15 inch wheels so they have enough room for a high sidewall like a 50 or 60 sidewall profile. 50 or 60 % of the tread width. If a tire has 12 inches of tread with and has a 50 profile , that means the sidewall is 6 inches. If a 12 inch wide tread with a 40 profile, the side wall is 4.8 inches. Low profile tires are for circuit tracks were sidewall flex is a negative handling characteristic. High sidewall profiles are for straight line drag racing. You do not want to put 20 inch diameter wheels on a drag race car. you need less wheel diameter so you can have room for a high sidewall. 25, 30, and 35 profile do not hook up like 40 50 and 60 aspect ratios. Putting a 19 or 20 inch wheel requires a very low aspect ratio sidewall everything is a trade off. you dont want a 2 inch sidewall height on a straight line race car.
