Default console vent..

does anyone know what the sidewall vent on the passenger side console does, or connected to ? is a small vent about 1 x 2 oval shape, mine is a 2002 and not sure if it was on any other C5s. the clip is broken off and won t stay on. i may just silicone it in place to hide the hole. i can t find anywhere what it does.

Outer half floor outlet vent. It is the air vent outlet that attaches to the inner floor duct coming down through the console. The black one is GM part #10414489.

Question, if my carpet is red would this plastic piece be red or black ? Anyone with red carpet out there ? Appreciate your comments.

Not to rob the thread, but what does it do/function. It is small so I cannot understand why it is needed.

Hey, walleyejack, I did, but not to be argumentative did you? What part of #7 "Outer half floor outlet vent. It is the air vent outlet that attaches to the inner floor duct coming down through the console. The black one is GM part #10414489." explains what the inner floor duct does as I asked? Why is it needed? What if I blocked it? Any answers would be appreciated.

no no, i am not trying to be argumentive, as i think you are not also. as he says, it attaches to the floor duct, i have no idea if it is needed, am thinking it just help direct heat/cold air to the passengers feet. jmo

No problem.

I remember a thread about some C5 owners here using this piece to hold up a 2nd drink holder, one used zip tie, not sure how the other drink holder was held on.

To me it doesn t matter, i use the dbl cup c6 holder that slips under the trim and rests on the floor and is just perfect height and it covers the vent anyways.

Thanks. I will check mine the next time I have the heat on. But it seems unusual to have a small vent on passenger side and not one on the drivers side.
