Default Tire time

Hey guy's I am sure this has been talked about several times but I am having a hard time finding doing searches. It is time for tires for my 02 Vert. Car has 16,000 miles and original tires. (Yeah I know lol) Anyway trying to decide on the best tires for this thing. I do not want run flats and the car is only driven in nice weather. Thinking about Michelins but not sure. I don't really mind spending the money for the best tires. What are you guy's running? Thank you

If you don't mind the cost, the concensus around here seems to be Michelins are the way to go. No doubt there will be other opinions though.

With the few miles you drive, you certainly don't need the best tires. Would be a waste of money since they will get old and hard long before you wear them out. If you only drive in summer, get summer tires. Summer tires are not a compromise and you will get the best performance at the best price. Buy a set of Firestone Indy 500s, Bridgestones or Hankooks summer tires and you will be shocked how much better your Vette performs.

Since a budget is not a concern, and you have no specific driving conditions, then performance is not so much a concern since all manufacturers make good tires. Since your original run flats are 17 years old, anything you put on your car will be such an improvement In my opinion, big names like Michelin and Goodyear will cost you alittle extra for the name. Also, dont try to compare tread life ratings from one company with another, since those ratings are proprietary to each company, meaning they only relate one compound to another from that one company. I would go for a nice looking tire, one that I liked the side wall and tread pattern. ( given your particular low mileage driven on nice days only criteria ) No need to spend 1000 or 1200 dollars for tires that you can buy for 600 or 700 dollars. ( tires that will do the job you need with security, performance and quality to spare. )

Toyo proxes. Might be misspelled. Best tires I've had. For what they are.

I really have to scratch my head with the responses that are given when people ask about wheels and tires. Don’t put cheep wheels on a car because they can come apart. But when it comes to tires no need for quality. No one knows when the time comes how people are going to drive their cars or what they need when they do drive it hard. The OP stated no run flats. Why does Corvette continue to put run flats on their car after20 some years. If you have not driven a Vette on the new Michelin run-flat your experience is well out dated. Just one persons opinion on this subject.

Quatro tires are good, very good, and half the price of anything else.

If you want the "best" tire, the Michelins ($1100) are the route to go. Unfortunately, they are 2nd most expensive (behind the Goodyear's ($1400)). I have the Continental Extreme Contact Sports ($800) on my 99. They are very good tires but not as good as the Michelins Pilot Sports on my 02. The Firestone Fire Hawk 500s have good reviews on the forum and only cost $600.

The only Michelin tires I see for our vehicle are a Pilot sport, I thought they use to have a summer only tire listed maybe they do not make it anymore.

Yeah, I was surprised that the Michelin Pilot Super Sports were not listed on Tire Rack. They are a GREAT tire. Have them on my Eagle Talon too.

The Michelin Pilot Super Sports have a successor in the form of the Pilot Sport 4S as well.
