On a road near no housing (or buildings at all for that matter), no other cars around... I took a race from a mildly modded V12 bi-turbo, pretty much neck and neck until I realized it was stupid and laid off the gas.
Not before since I was young, not since.

Many of us see the big picture : Our loved ones and friends are on those same public roads. Leaving the consequences of this type of action in the hands of what many people here might say would be the hands of someone who is unsafe, doesn't care about the law, guilty of poor judgement and could be considered less than mature.

Well said, Bill. I do not get involved in street racing - way too much to lose should something go wrong and besides it can put innocent people in danger. Taking it to the track is a much better way to go.
Interesting this thread went to street racing and just a couple nights ago I watched an episode of "Autobiography" where the Enzo crashed in Malibu in 2006 at about 190 mph. Went airborne over a bump or debris in the road apparently and cut a telephone pole in half and the Enzo in half as well. Driver and passenger walked away from it somehow but a very expensive thrill. Ferrari eventually got the car back, and they rebuilt it to factory specs, making it a one-off. It last sold for 1.75 million, I think. Anyway, I don't race others on the street, way too dangerous as you have no idea what skill level the other driver is, not to mention too many unpredictables out there in the world. However, just about every time I take my Z06 on anything other than a short errand run, it's funny how many people will try to race you. Not worth the risk for the payoff, in my opinion. I realize my car is not the fastest car out there by any means, but on the other hand, it's faster than nearly everything else. Nothing to prove. I agree: Keep it on the track.
This was a fun one had to start at the back of the pack because of a broken wing in qualifying.
I had to drive though all the cars, this LS3 swapped 944 Turbo was the last to past in my ST1 class he blew my doors off down the front straight but got him back in the corners the 944 was fast, mine has 510rwhp. Don't know it was my proudest moment but a fun race.
I have many fond memories before drag strips were built in my area. There were no interstates and most folks were in bed by 10 pm. Cops tolerated us and some even participated in the activity.Less people less problems.
Now there is too much liability. too many people on the roads at all hours, and to many people that don't know how to drive. The good ol days of street racing are a memory. There are plenty of tracks for the wanabes to
show pff, or to just race. Common sense means not racing will save your licence and have afforable insurance if you are lucky, and lawyer fees as well as court fee's and or prison ( if you hit someone, or kill them).
Who the hell would risk all of that to race on the street.
I may be an old Guy, but Ive always been a car guy. Back in the day of " American Graffiti " 50's and 60's, street racing was a given, In other threads I would talk about street racing, and even racing the local cops. We had car clubs, hung out at hamburger spots, Knew where we could safely race, used walkie talkies to make sure the cops where not around. etc. There were fewer cars on the roads in those days. AS young kids we enjoyed the thrills and the bragging rights, never thought much about things going wrong. Every one in the town knew who had the fastest car. We were all young and dumb and ;;;;; you know the rest.. at.least the old guys do. I can relate to the thrills , but with age comes wisdom. I shutter at some of the things I did with cars as a young kid. When I lost my best friend, many years ago it changed my whole perspective. The consequences of street racing today in 2019, should be enough of a deterrent to stifle any desire to race on the street. The consequences include but not exclusive to: legal, moral, financial, bodily injury, death. The thrill is not worth the consequences. That's why there are local tracks.

I told a 70 year old member of my gun club, who owns a Dodge Demon ( 808 hp ) and brags about street racing all the time, that if he is caught, they can take his car. He looked like I told him I just killed his dog.. at first he didn't believe me.. but the very next week he came up to me and thanked me
You can find the thrill and sensation of a fast car legally if you know where to find it, and it does not have to be at a track..

The thrill of street racing diminishes as one matures.
absolutely. As a teenager I would bob and weave and try my hardest to keep my car at warp speed
Now I set cruise and just roll with traffic, I'll get home eventually. Usually less frustrated and in better spirits than when I am bobbing and weaving and cutting ppl off
Once in a while tho, you just gotta put the skinny pedal down, and that just how God intended it haha
or someone elses at your hand He only intends that when he considers punching your ticket or someone elses.
You cannot reasonably say that you have never gone full throttle in your car, ever. On ramp, merge, back roads, canyon, track; anything.
I dont like merging at 35mph, so excuse me if drop the hammer and merge at the limit, no harm, no foul. Someone tailgating me? Well pal I'll move.... 1/4mi ahead of you
full throttle usage does not equal death, sorry to say. Whats the point of 300+hp if Im only ever gonna use the first 40 or so?
That sounds epic!! You have some onboard footage of the championship?

In order to win, multiple improbable events had to happen...
First, I needed to win at least 5 rounds,
Second, I needed to be the #1 Qualifier, (gets an extra point), and,
Third was I had to be on the opposite side of the ladder of the current points leader, and beat him.
All went down as listed!!!!! Unbelievable!!!!!

Here's the video...
I'm the Pewter C5, far lane...
Going into the Final round I was actually down 1 point, but being the #1 Qualifier that awards the winner an extra point, which ended up giving me the Championship... Turn up the volume and listen to the announcer, who wasn't exactly sure... haha...

First of all, I am not your pal. It's good to have an opinion, that's why we have these discussions and welcome them.. The point to having 300+ hp is having the ability to get out of a bad situation.. out of someone's way.( some full throttle jockey out of control ) Passing someone legally and have the HP to do so safely and expeditiously, gives me peace of mind, and I dont have to be an *** in doing it. 300+ hp and going full throttle is for the hundreds of thousands of people who enjoy driving on a track where it is legal. thousands of people are killed every year in vehicular tragedy's., many of them innocent by-standers. or passengers in a car driven by some full throttle Kevin Harvick wanna be.
Just my opinion. thank you for expressing your opinion.

Didn't call you my pal, in my post I referred to the person hypothetically tailgating me as "pal"
Millions of every living species die, every year: and you're jumping my **** because I want to get on it on an on ramp? While you simultaneously state you're willing to out accelerate someone, or pass them, with the caveat of "safety"? Inferred "safety" is quite subjective, I'll say. And I'll also say its very hypocritical of you.
Too bad we couldn't actually be "pals", I am sure we'd have gotten along just fine if you hadn't misread my post or had a messiah complex about us accelerating or getting ahead of the next guy
All opinions are welcome (it's the nature of every thread) but definitely took away from my original intention of this thread. I wanted to hear some underdog C5 stories, regardless of the scenario. Was never intended to promote street racing or wreckless actions, nor the discussion of it. Whatever, wasn't supposed to be a serious thread anyways.

Ive been nothing but supportive of your opinion.. Your text about calling someone Pal could be taken more than one way. I'm not trying to shoot holes in your logic.. but you seem to be calling me names ( hypocrite ), .. There is a reason they have " Passing lanes " they are there to [pass a slower driver and get back in the normal flow lane. IN some States ( eg. New Jersey ) for one, a passing lane is for passing only, you will be ticketed for continuous driving in the left lane.. ON NJ highways that lane is for emergency use and Police activity.. but you can use it to pass a slower driver also, but have to merge back into a lane to the right . Ive said serval time, you have a right to your opinion, and I even thanked you for it.. I asked that we keep this civil.. the name calling is what turns these good discussions into train wrecks.
Ive also said their are safe places to use some HP . you mentioned passing someone and eluded to the fact that in your mind this is unsafe.. trying to bolster points.. when you are on a super slab with the legal limit being 75, and come up on a car doing 60, or 55 passing safely and quickly is easily accomplished. and by the way [putting the hammer down and going from 55 to 75 in a second or two is what I was referring to. Getting out of a potential rear ender with someone ahead of you doing 55 in a 75 can do that. I dont need to defend my position its just an opinion, one you seen to take with a lot of angst. I hope we can be pals here in this forum, but that is for another day.

Downside of Corvette ownership is reading about JCWhitney chrome peeling and how they lost their local car show to another bedazzled but otherwise completely stock sports car with 2,000mi on it
I seriously can't believe that on a SPORTS CAR forum we are having such a problem with acceleration. GM built em, we drive em. God forbid we accelerate 0-60 in 4.0 like GM BUILT THE Z06 to do!!! Dang ppl
This morning my 1997 Regal GS with an intercooler and a pulley pulled away from the newest V6 Camry. That was kinda cool because my Buick is like a $3000 car, after mods and freshening it up
