Purchased a 2004 convertable about 4 months ago. Love the car, currently with 34,000 miles. Came across some threads relating to gas tank leakage. I have no problems as of yet. Is this something i should be worried about. I am the 3rd owner. Is it possible this problem was corrected by a previous owner.
I had the cross over problem on my 04 my car at the time had around 14,000 miles if I remember right and appeared in Aug of 2014 . Dealer did repair and I had a extended warranty which cover cost of repair which at the time was about 2100.00. after repair I had no further problems. I traded car in in 2017. Here are a couple pictures. First picture is of under car below gas fill door and second is the defective part. Go to your local GM dealer with vin of your Corvette they might run a VIS report for you and it could show if repair was already corrected or try a Carfax report.

some 04’s were not affected. Check your VIN/ build date
Thanks guys for your input . I will take vin # and check with dealer if there was a repair on this... Fingers crossed.
Not to **** on your Cornflakes but if the repair was not done the extended Warranty has long since expired. If it needs to be done it will be on your dime.
Keep fingers crossed that, A - your VIN doesn't falling into the affected range of VIN's or B- Repair was made

onesweetride , Do a search with title " fuel leak 2004 cracked cross over connector smells" in my notes I had marked down good info on problem. I think the vin numbers for 04 were 45110258 - 45125500 . Do the search there was a lot of good info that was in that thread. There was a 10 year warranty that covered the problem but that has long expired I was lucky that the extended warranty I had on car covered the cost of repair.

That's the vin numbers I have also in my notes. Build dates: Oct 8, 2003 to March 18, 2004.
Don't worry about it, you will probably have some other malady before your gas tank failure.
One tip don't overfill your gas tanks. The overfill make look like a tank failure.
Good luck.
So am I correct to assume those VIN numbers are the ones affected with leaking fuel crossovers? My '03 VIN is.... 32G635117588 Should be fine correct? Thanks guys in advance. Rob
EL orginial the vin numbers above that I posted was for 04 . Search that thread that I mentioned and they had the 03 vin numbers. I only marked down the 04 numbers in my notes. Very long thread at post 341 they talk about vin numbers.

It does seem that this issue continues to plague owners of the 2004 Corvette. I looked at the NHTSA web site and there have been about 125 complaints of reported fuel tank leaks/gasoline smell. There have been a handful of complaints each year with the last complaint being Dec 2018. It seems that issue is a safety problem. Why can't it be looked into again by NHTSA. Are there any owners on this forum that recently filed a complaint? Did the government respond? Considering how many cars were produced the actual risk of a 04 Corvette having this problem seems to be relatively low but very expensive to fix.

You have a valid point but GM already addressed the issue by extending the repair to10 yrs or 100,000 miles, putting the cut off year at 2014. I guess GM's way of thinking was, we gave you plenty of time to bring the car in for repair. I know it's a lame excuse but that's big corporation for you. If I remember correctly this issue wasn't a mandated NHTSA Recall but is rather an extension of a warranty on the tanks . GM admits the cement used on the gas tanks was out of spec and is the reason the tanks fail.
