I recently picked up a Callaway C7 and decided to sell my C5 Z06. I took the Z out for as spin yesterday, after I figured out how to start it. (had to use a key) Tried to make a call, (no bluetooth) tried to listed to XM Radio (no satellite) and realized I just couldn't sell it. I've had a bunch of C5 Z's and I just can't get them out of my blood. As many have said, the C7 (more so when it's a Callaway) is a better car in every way but man is the C5 Z06 a great car. It's stock and it's a blast. Until I waffle again this one is staying in the garage .
Its good to hear the C5 still feel relevant for you .. Ive also had fleeting thoughts, but it only last a few second.. considering my blood runs through this car.
Having owned a C6Z & driven some C7Z cars, I don't get why anyone would bother keeping the C5 if you own both at the same time. I guess it's just me lol

Nothing at all wrong with having two Vettes in the garage and if you had to pick one other generation besides the C7, you didn’t go wrong keeping the C5.
I often fantasize about a new z06 (not in the cards right now financially). But when I think about selling my c5 I get an uneasy feeling so I think I’d do the same thing. I like my car, not just “for the money”, but I genuinely like it.
I can't blame you. I have done the same thing. My wife bought me a Centennial Z06 in December as a retirement gift. I really love the C6Z, however, my C5Z still holds a special place in my mind as one of the best Corvettes ever made, not to mention, I've really made it my own. Cheers to having 2 Vettes in the garage !
My first vette was a 2003 Z06 and I was in Germany at the time. There were very few cars that could out run me. Sold the car to a German friend (he still has it). Then I seen a 2004 Z06 commemorative edition and immediately bought the car. I have thought of getting a C7 but I like the body style of the C5. It will probably be my last vette as I am 75 and will see what comes along in life. Jim
my wife and I have a modded C 6 Z06 and it's a real Beast, we also have a stock 02 Z 06 and don't think we will ever get rid of it !!!!!! also have a 99 modded coupe !!!!! Someday we might have C 7 Z ??????
I have come close to getting a C7 a couple of times and just couldn't do it. I like the C7 very much but I still like the body style of the C5 best and just can't part with my '99 coupe. I would rather add a C7 rather than replace the C5, especially how many buyers want to offer less than some dealers will.
I say that being a guy that bought my c5z over a decade ago and had had a c6z at the same time.
At at this point, I kept the c5z.
Probably going to something exotic next while keeping the c5z as a lifelong keeper.
Exactly, I love my C5Z - I guess its the FRC style that drew me to it, despite driving (rejecting) the C6 and initially thinking of getting one. Having a pair of C4s in the stable one can mod a car year round but the basic design and car lines is what wins me over with the fixed roof.
Congrats on the Callaway, wouldn't hurt to shoot a pic with the C5Z sometime

I've done the same thing many times and always end up with the Z. I'll bet the C7 will go before the C5 however there will probably be another C something to keep it company.

Heck, I owned two C5s for a long time, still do. If I was to purchase another Corvette, it too would be a C5 (Bill, you listening?)
Nothing beats the race car, raw, over sized go cart FRC Z06, that's why.
A C7Z with the top off/down beats it. I guess I am just not a hardtop guy. That's why I did not get another Z06 this time. No substitute for top off/down fun
I owned a C7GS. Bought it New when I sold my C6Z. Had to have the newest, latest and greatest (naturally aspirated) when it debuted in 2017. Had it 18 months and put 10k miles on it in that time. Couple track days and road trips too. In the end, I didn’t like all the tech in it.l, I didn’t like the 7 speed gear box, I didn’t like the electric steering feel, i didn’t like the digital gauges, I didn’t like the VVT, Direct injection, cylinder deactivation, and decided the car was just not what I wanted in my ‘fun’ car. Sold it while it still had good value and went ‘backwards’ to a car that drove and handled like I wanted. The ability to turn off the nannies and actually drive the car. An analog car in a digital world. I purchased a C5Z in stock form with very low miles from a guy who just didn’t drive it and no longer wanted it. It was like a breath of fresh air! Old sweeping analog gauges, 6 speed transmission that had a shift feel like a ‘rifle bolt’, raw power with minimal computer intrusion, that FRC eye appeal, smooth curves, and easy to work on with cheap parts... the C7GS is a better car in just about all comparison metrics... but it was just not that car for me.. with the C8 being auto trans only, I won’t be tempted by that one either. It looks like this C5Z will be my last Corvette. I can easily see why the OP was reluctant to part ways with his.
