Went today to have the battery tested and found out the hold down bolt was cross threaded from the last battery replacement. When the hold down bolt was removed it took a lot of force to remove the long bolt and the rivets holding the nut bracket were broken off.So now I dont have the battery hold down. I don’t think the battery will fall over in the battery compartment so now I will have to drill out the broken pop rivets to make the hold down useable. I find out now five years after that the jerks that installed the previous battery damaged the hold down. It pisses me off because this is the third time that I have had damage to my Vette from people that call themselves mechanics.
This is why I try to do all of the work myself. If I screw up I only have one person to blame as opposed to trying to find proof that some lame brain mechanic did it.

In their defense, it's not a great design. Unfortunately, it's a bit late for that. If you need a new part, just ask in the c5 parts section and one of the parts vendors will have what you need taken from a salvage car. No sweat.
Its unfortunate, but this kind of stuff does happen. not everyone does everything perfectly every time. IM not making excuses. I also will not let anyone touch my car. However if this happened to me, I would just fix it... make sure you do not drive around without the battery secure on the try, too much " Stuff " right below the battery tray. Just take out the battery, and the tray.... get a correct nut and washer at Home depot, JB weld them to the underside of the tray and you are good to go.. cost about 4 dollars ( JB weld nut and washer ) and an hours time.
Good Luck

I went through this recently too. There are plenty of battery trays on the aution sites and they are not too expensive. I was lucky enough to find the captured nut laying in the fender and sucessfully riveted it back into the battery tray. After lubing all the nuts, everything went back together smoothly.
Same thing happened to me. Purchased a used tray on the auction site for $25. Problem solved with an entire assembly that looked virtually new when it arrived.

Things happen. Sorry it was to you this time. Talk to either one of the new parts vendors or used parts vendors and see if they can provide you with replacement parts.
