A lot of people here are exaggerating the power difference in the Z vs coupe. I installed headers in my 02 coupe and had a tune and was already making as much to the wheels as a stock C5Z. Upgraded my intake and plugs/plug wires and was making more.
Once you get into big mods like head and cam you would just be changing things that you'd be changing on the Z anyhow.
You can buy a cheap C5 and have as much power or more than a Z for well under the cost. Also, I love the Targa, I can't imagine having a vette without one.
Just make sure you don't buy an automatic, that is the only one that would take more money to get as fast as a Z without spending more than you would to buy one.

All of that is pure nonsense when you put them in the real world. Like I stated, minimal mods will make a coupe as fast as or faster than a Z06. Also, if you want some extra rigidity go for a Z51, they aren't any more pricy than a regular coupe but give you some decent starter track accessories.

well one thing for sure if you don't think the engine is better and stronger, lets talk about the trans, the lower gears alone in the M12 (Z 06) vs the M6 in the coupe will leave you in the dust !!!!!!

The Z06 does have a stronger engine and better transmission FROM THE FACTORY, but you could buy a coupe and make it much faster than a Z06 for less than it would cost to buy a Z06.
The fact that it is a Z06 and doesn't mean it will be faster regardless. You sound like a hopeless fanboy who refuses to believe a Z06 could be beaten by a coupe.

I have both stock 02 Z and a 99 coupe, yes my 99 is faster being heavily modified with a M 12 trans !!!!! on a Auto X course the Z smokes my 99's a**

Exactly my point earlier. Z06s were 4-5 grand more than q coupe. Dump that into a blower and it's no contest. Plus the roof comes off lol.
The coilovers; sway bars, headers and exhaust, and all the other day stuff would have gone one the z if I had bought one. So theres very little I would have gotten out of it. I'd rather have 600 hp than a z06 badge for similar $

I don't even understand why a C5Z is a benchmark for the base C5, if you can eventually just mod the hell out of it to beat it. Why not just go after the C7 ZR1 or a McLaren...

Agreed. There are some people who want a Z06 just to say they have a Z06. I'm more about bang for my buck.

Correct me if I'm wrong but most S/C kits are over $5k. That doesn't include the price of installation or a tune.
If you're boosting to 600hp then you'll need a clutch, especially if you have plans for the track.
Blowers run hot so any track plans mean you'll also require an oil cooler and an aftermarket radiator.
All that adds up to a lot more than $5k difference in price.
I understand what you're trying to say but you're not really being realistic on the price or requirements for your 600hp C5 Coupe.
