Default Cell Phone mounts

What do you all use and where are you mounting your phones?

i use the C5 specific mount from ProClipUSA and love it. I use the one that hods and charges the phone. No permeant holes to drill or anything like that. If I upgrade the phone I just buy a new phone holder and the dash mount remains the same.

I had the ProClips phone holder before I went double din mod. My passenger would always complain that they couldn’t see/adjust the HVAC when the phone was in the holder.

Since I’ve gone double din, I removed the ProClip for now and am really bummed because it caused a permanent indention in the part of the dash that meets the bezel. I’m still torn on where I am going to put my cell, especially since my new head unit requires my phone to be connected for CarPlay & Waze.

Default Vent Mount MagicMount

I use this and put it on the vent in the middle of the dash, works great for me.

I use this in the cup holder and it works flawlessly. Twist the screw in the base mount and it comes right out. Locks in solid when in place and holds my IPhone perfectly. Cheap too

I had the Scosche and liked it for a long while but when heat comes out of the vent it cooks the phone and it wasn’t holding my iPhone XR well in normal driving. I have the Cellet which holds firm in the cupholder and holds the phone well. It’s a bit bulky, but it does the job.

I use a very similar one. Works great except for two nuisances: 1. The weight of the cell phone forces the vent to a downward direction. 2. Blocks a bit of AC air flow. It does however hold extremely well on heavy cornering and hard acceleration.

Have y'all taken these to the track? I'm looking for a setup as well - preferably one where I can have the phone's camera film track laps - and show me data.

None of the ones I’ve used OR even seen could withstand track use.
I think you need one of those behind the seat heavy duty mounts.

That's what I was worried about. I am putting in a harness bar soonish but I think that's a much better place for a camera than a phone showing me info...

I use a holder that clips on the middle AC vent and holds my iPhone very securely and at just the right angle and height for easy viewing. .I've had it for over 5 years now and I mainly only use it for the GPS/map feature on a trip or trying to find directions to someplace. I keep it over to the right side of the vent, not in the middle and it may theoretically block some of the airflow out the vent, but it's not noticeable at all, if it even occurs. I think I paid less than $5 for it.

These are the best in my opinion...and my friends and I have tried a lot. These are clean and simple, and will peel back off. I mounted this to the center console plastic next to where the radio goes. A small metal plate sticks to the back of your phone case and you just toss it on and pull it off. It holds incredibly well. You can turn phone sideways to watch something while you're waiting, or use it for gps, etc. works good

I’ve seen some ‘cute’ phone software for speed, etc. but I wouldn’t waste my time or $$ trying to make do with something that will be a bit of a frustration in practice. I’ve seen some great stuff for Go Pro and others.

The only reason I use a holder is to keep the phone from flying around or annoying my passengers. I have a DD unit with CarPlay so the phone is just there to provide the info.

And all the other 55 threads on this subject are full of
"I like this mount"
"Yeah me too"
"I actually hate this mount"
"Yeah me too"

I don't blame OP. There's no definitive list of "people like these mounts and don't have issues with them" that I have seen. For every mount that two people like, one person claims it's garbage. I personally already went through the trouble of buying a mount that turned out to suck ...

GoPros do video great, sure. They don't display info.

The way I see it, there are really two solutions: the one everyone seems to start with (Harry's LapTimer with an OBD2 dongle), and then the ones people move on to (a discrete logging system). The logging systems cost about as much as a nice smartphone, and if you already have a nice smartphone ... well. Clearly it's a popular solution and works well enough for the occasional track-goer like myself.

For what it's worth, the LapTimer website recommends a specific mount:

Ram Mount RAM-B-166U Double Ball Twist-Lock Suction Cup Mount

Website with recommendations: http://www.gps-laptimer.de/compatibility/ios

It further recommends a phone-specific mount rather than a generic X-grip mount. Unfortunately the correct phone-specific mount for my phone (RAM-HOL-AP25U) is not in stock.

I suspect this will be the right answer. Kinda spendy to drop $40-60 on a setup tho'.

I use a Ram Mount, suction mount, mounted under the rear view mirror. Great videos with an iphone and Harry's Lap Timer. Works great on the street also for google maps navigation.

Never use a forum search. They are terrible. Google is much better and it will give forum results.
