If you put in a CAI do you need a performance MAF to take full advantage of it? Then if you dont change the MAF will it be a problem? And if you do change the MAF do you need to get a tune?
Anything that allows the engine to "breathe" more your stock setup...i.e. upgraded intake manifold, heads etc...I have a SLP Blackwing CAI...really didn't notice any performance gains that I felt !!....you know you're car DOES run better when it's clean ??...same thing...LOL !!!
The C5 MAF will flow more air than the TB will allow. The TB will flow 750 cfm and the base C5 will max at 600 cfm/Z06 will approach 650. That is why there is not a need to change until you reach 450 hp. A true outside cold air system will allow a more dense (oxygen) amount of air because it is at ambient temperature rather than an engine bay air intake which is usually 150-170 degrees. HTH
When my car was new I talked with SLP about the MAF and the TB. I was told anything over stock air box could use larger MAF. The TB was good to 600HP. I changed out the air box., add the LS6 MAF, larger tunnel ram, smooth color, being a 98 also added the LS6 manifold. And add a tune shortly after. In 98 the duel cones were all that was available so i stuck with it. Also added a cat back. Woke this corvette up from what came out of the factory.
