It is worth noting that someone who is preparing to buy a Vette with bsm's and has a definite dislike of them, and figured they'd buy the car and remove them, they "might" want to consider the unfortunate outcome that Beer:30 experienced when he found out that the color change would prohibit them from said removal. It could now be considered a possible deal-breaker to an extent for the buyer. Since there are more than a few Corvettes for sale, there's a greater opportunity for buyers to be more choosy in their selection.
Yes, in the end, it's a Vette!
But- some people do care about smaller details and shouldn't be derided or belittled because of their interests or priorities.
I for one, don't mind the bsm's either way, and consider them to accent some colors very well; but I can also see how it's a reasonable and FREE modification that makes a rather striking change to the appearance of our Corvettes. I find it fun to see what each owner has done with their canvas that is Corvette to make it their own, and appreciate the individuality. If we continue to deride these endeavors "we" deem unimportant, people will be less inclined to share their stories and projects and we'll be left with a small enclave of sycophants.
Keep those pics coming, and let's keep having fun!
Hey, who has put their BSM's BACK ON? Let's get some pics of those! How did you attach them? Did they stick? Are they now speed bumps on some lonely road after they flew off?
I ordered this 2004 new and the only two options I didn't get were BSMs and front license plate mount. One wasn't wanted and the other wasn't needed. BTW, I still have it today.

Bought my 98 60k Vette last August and took the moldings off within two weeks. Not a big fan of them either, but wasn't going to let that keep me from buying the Vette I wanted since they can come off. No sign they were ever there.

My previous C5 was a Black Coupe like J Chris Davis car except my Wagons were chromed..I admit a very classy looking vette sans beauty suppressors..OK currently I got I got the dreaded spears and have learned to tolerate the little devils to the point of actual appreciation after catching a small chip recently..oh well to each his own.
^^
I think they look kinda cool, haven't even considered removing them. They're definitely unique.
Plus I'd be afraid of what I'd find underneath.
I'm worried about your eyes man.. and your sense taste.
They just clutter the smooth lines of the car, look out of place, ugly, and they're pretty close to being functionally useless! The first mod I made after I got the car was pulling those silly looking things off.
I hope to purchase a c5Z in the near future, and I will not purchase one with the BSM. Could I probably remove them without issue? -sure. But I won't take that chance with a car I don't HAVE to have. Nothing against them if you like 'em, but since it was mentioned that it wouldn't break a deal.....it would for me.
As far as worrying about color match removing BSM's, on a vertical surface like the side there will be considerably less sun damage than a horizontal surface. Red being the worst at fading, I had no problem removing my molding later on. I even took the rear Vette emblem off the Z06 trunk much later again and had no color fade problems.

That would be my opinion of it too, but it's hard to tell. I/we do wraps and fleet graphics for a living and I certainly have seen it happen, especially on red, like you said. Still, that pic of Beer30's Silver car almost looks like clearcoat came off. Not saying that's what it is, but that's certainly not normal sun fade. Something else is going on there.

The car I am guessing spent a considerable amount of time in the sun and not garaged (condo). There are a few sports that are noticeable. Silver doesn't do well exposed to sun over time and causes clearcoat issues.
Here is a picture at night that makes it look particularly bad with the flash. In the daylight it's not so noticeable. The paint is tired after 22 years but still decent looking from 10ft.
You guys would probably also remove the side strakes on an F1
No, we wouldn't remove something functional that is an integral part of the body design. We only remove needless add-ons that serve virtually no purpose.
