Walking out of the auto parts store, run into a torch red vette parked broadside that was show ready. Stance was perfect and I was blown away. Looked kinda like a C5 but I really couldn’t tell. Had some larger C6 wheels that threw me off and I was really annoyed that I couldn’t decide by looking . Profile was clean and exotic looking. Got around and saw the tail lights which confirmed it was a C5. Then it became clear what was different. Didn’t have my phone but went home and made the change. More subtle on Pewter but still better.
Exactly. Didn’t bother me until I saw how it looked without in red. Since pewter is understated to begin with, it looks better but not as dramatically different. Still, cleaner and more the exotic look that the C5 ushered in. BSMs fit our American tendency for excess ( like fins, fake air dams, graphics, etc) but the lines of the C5 seem to need less finessing. Like putting graphics on a Ferrari 458. Misses the point.
I've thought about taking the body side moldings off the anniversary, but with the darker paint and the Arizona sun, I'm pretty sure the paint underneath would be a shade darker and I don't want to run the risk of bending/cracking the BSM taking it off if I need to put it back on to cover the paint variation . . . . .I've had a few C5s- my silver convertible looked good without it.
I thought it was on car to protect fiberglass if a door of another car swings into it?
I had my car for maybe a month and was in a parking lot, someone pulled up next to me and slammed the door of their car HARD into my passenger door, it was loud and made the car jerk, I saw it was a blonde woman walking away.
I was pissed and got out expecting to find damage, but the moulding protected it, I imagine if it wasn't on there, door skin would have a hole in it.
Car still has BSM, looks fine to me.

Yeah I'm afraid of removing mine because of the fear the paint won't match up!!
You can remove the small front piece to check the paint match. Shouldn’t be difficult to reattach if paint is faded. That was a worry of mine as well but worked out. Probably depends on the color and condition of the paint. My pewter was fine for a 99 (42k) though was probably sitting in a garage for much of the last 20 years
