Looks great, and you used good products.
Any more cracking of the clear?

I sanded the cracks down as much as I dared without making anything start to flake. I also filled in very lightly with cyanoacrylate glue. The color and the new topcoat clear seem to be holding it all together nicely. I have a theory that the finish was damaged when it was removed from its original car interior, as several of the back tabs were missing as well. I was extra gentle with re installing it, and made sure there was minimal "play" in its seating. Adding the washers under the 10mm bolts on the floor seemed to give it more stability overall. Only time will tell, though, and my fingers remain crossed!

One of my hobbies is (wood)turning. I got to a point where I was saying to myself: “ok, how many shift ***** can I make for one car?” So I took up penmaking, just with acrylic resins/plastic. CA glue is used A LOT, and there’s 3 grades. I have the heavy and the thin. The heavy might be helpful for you if the situation arises. Many turners use the heavy as a finish, and it works very well.

First I've read of this. Interesting! Do we need to do a complimentary shimming of the aft console? Mine is out for the DD radio, will have to investigate. Thanks for the tip!

No, the aft section still fits with no new gapping from the new front shims being in place.
The washers were sandwiched between the tabs of the aft part and the tabs of the radio bezel; if you have any fitment issues, you could try moving the washers to be placed under both pieces.
I did notice that the traction control panel seated more securely, and that was actually a good thing in my case, as it had been rather loose before I started this project.
Are you modifying your original console, or did you get a DD specific replacement? Keep us posted, and I'd love to see pics of your project!

That's real artistry, to make something as lithe as a pen! Thank you for the tip about the multiple grades of CA glue. I used it in the '80's when I was building models and dioramas, and then saw the process applied to motorcycle fairing repair on Windy Urtnowski's Youtube channel.
I'm most concerned that the section that sweeps up from the floor to the ignition and temp sensor cover may give way to cracking, as it's the area most prone to errant knee-jostling.
I have a Woodcraft Supply store near me, and now have another reason for going in to shop! Many thanks!

You're welcome! You have no idea how excited I was to learn there is a Woodcraft in Allentown, Pa about an hour from me. Worth the drive for sure! The people are very helpful and patient. One guy helped me completely replace/reconfigure my dust collection system from a pretty poor drawing I brought. My wife loved the store too.
The area you describe is the 'killer' part for applying wrap vinyl. I called 3M and they said there's no 'shame' in doing something in 2 pieces. Made the whole job much easier, but it was the small detailed curved areas, (especially inside curves) that made me give up on that. FWIW, I'd be surprised if you get any cracks in that area from your knees.
I also like your shimming idea for the rear of the bezel. Those tabs in the upper front area give up pretty quick after a couple of remove/replace operations.
Here's pictures of a few of my latest pens. The last one on the bottom is a 6 speed shifter, but guys with automatics have no idea how to work it!

Bringing the exterior color into the interior is a mod IMO. Well done.

I’m a former metal shop teacher, so the cost of some of the shiftknobs I see online seems excessive since I can still make my own in my home shop. (Shopsmith)
with the MGW, I prefer a bar type ****, and I’ve made a few of different types of acrylics.
Pictured is my fave that’s in my car and one I made that’s half green/orange.

Thanks Edmund. I’ve made some ***** for a couple of people, I’ll include a couple here. I don’t plan to open an online shop but I gladly take requests!
Made the blue one for a guy in NH with an Electron blue Z. The other, much earlier one was for a Florida friend.
