I had the same issue with my tonneau cover which covers the vert top. I was balancing it with one hand to store the top. Look for them on eBay from Auto Express.
And simple to remove old and install --maybe 15 mins total. It's one clip on each strut.
I also had droopy trunk lid. .Found the new trunk truts from this same great family business on eBay for $12- lifetime warranty too!
They were great to work with when FedEx lost the package.

Those are the ones I ordered from Auto Express through Ebay. The supports came with the same size 'clip' on both ends. The pivot ball on my '03 is definitely larger in the back than front so these would not fit. The original supports have a larger 'clip' on the back. I inquired about it to Auto Express, and sent the comparison picture. They just said to send them back for a refund. Don't know if they had any design change over the years to the pivot ball or not.

I think, to be checked, that you should be able to unscrew the back eyelet and replace the new one by the old one.
for my 2000, it is 2 different sizes of the eyelets also. It looks like an inventory mistake.
