new corvette owner here, 2002 c5 coupe. bought from deceased friend who took very good care of it. 72k orig. miles on the clock, work done to intake/exhaust, brakes, suspension, and tires/rims..
really fun to drive, great acceleration, corners like on rails. no bad habits except for my right foot., needs driver's seat rebuilt as foam flattened out.
battery was kinda weak when put up for the winter and stone dead now. need to know the best long term battery for the big, yellow rocket.
got prices all over the map, from $125 all the way up to $300. should I go w/lead acid, gel, glass mat or lithium ion?
second ? relates to the lights on my dash just before I put it up. got a message on the dash for abs, traction control and stability.
does this mean that I need to have my module replaced/rebuilt, and where do you all here go the get this done.
thanks in advance for helping out a new guy.
Search "EBCM repair" in the C5 Tech forum for info on that. Checking and listing the codes would be a good place to start to help find the cause for the trouble. There is plenty of info about that on here as well. I had mine shipped to and repaired by ABSfixer online. Batteries are subjective but a good one can help correct electrical issues on these cars. I use this one and keep a Cytek battery charger on it when not driving it.
Gel or AGM seems to be the consensus here. And Tsumi is right. A weak battery can cause all kinds of problems and codes. And be sure to use a battery tender. Your battery will thank you for it.
Just remember the computer sits right under the battery. Those of us who have experienced leaky lead acid batteries would not put one over top of the electronics. Pick an AGM battery. If you want the best, its an Odyssey Extreme - it's also the most expensive.
p.s. Skip the Lithium Ion - very expensive and you need charge control electronics as well.
