Default C5 center console storage bin lid mod needed

Our C5's suffer a little bit from lack of storage room. My center console storage bin a full of items and is very cluttered. Has anyone seen a custom-made piece that is attached underneath the lid that features some organization capacity; for example, a pen holder, etc.? It could be attached to several of the existing screws. Why haven't the multitude of vendors jumped on this possibility?

If you do what you are suggesting it would make the console arm rest un-usable as it is primarily an arm rest in the Corvette. Leave some of your treasures at home, lol.

Have never seen a mod like that. There just isn’t much room under the lid for adding extras but you never know what can be done.

I never could find a pen until the console was cleaned out, there were four in there so this was made: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...organized.html.

OCD is not necessarily a bad thing.. but in this case.. 1/2 of the very limited available space is taken up with organizational partitions. It's a very hot and very limited space. Trying to jam more " stuff " into this space is like trying to put 2 lbs of crap in a one pound bag.

There's supposed to be a military type of Chapstick that can handle more heat.

LOL...I spent several years in the Box thanks to my Uncle Sugar! I still have a few tubes of the "Heat Resistant" chapstick. Found it more useful for dried out finger tips, would rub your lips off. It ranks up there with Twinkies and Keith Richards...no expiration date for some unknown reasons!

That is fantastic, FAST_ONE, and exactly what I had in mind. I presume you had these two plastic pieces 3-D printed, and the piece of leather underneath the lid was procured from a Hobby Lobby-style retailer. Something thin can be stored between the leather and the underside of the lid.

Thank you so much for giving me hope. The leather upper part seems simple enough. The 3-D printed pieces . . . well . . . there are places in town that produce these prints for customers, and even assist with digital file creation. Seems like a fantastic project and very worthwhile learning experience for when after the priorities have been completed. Thank you again, FAST_ONE !!

The pouch was made from neoprene rubber from my favorite supplier https://www.mcmaster.com/neoprene-rubber and it's folded in half at the bottom so anything placed inside is between the neoprene, the silicone seals both sides of the neoprene together to contain the contents.

Would this be a better mod with the console insulator pad that you can buy from one of our vendors???

My goal was to get several of the items I store in my center console bin into a pouch or pouches mounted underneath the lid like FAST_ONE, thereby freeing up space on the floor of the center console. Instead of opaque neoprene, I used a thick, transparent, plastic sheeting, so I could see what was placed in there. I bought two yards of this material at a nearby Joanne's Fabrics. I knew about this material because I've used it previously for other unrelated projects; for example, closet shelf liners. The material is very strong and should last forever.

The plan entailed first making a rough outline of the final product then after several iterations, hopefully acquire the final shape. Yes, this reiteration technique wasted plastic sheeting, but paper or any kind of textile could not duplicate the various properties of the clear plastic material.

My third version fit perfectly and held all that I had planned to store with room to spare. It consists of two stacked pouches, and is fixed in place via all the screws holding the lid together. Sorry I didn't intermittently photograph the construction process. Here is the final result:

It was not difficult to design. All I used was the plastic sheeting, a sharpie, a scissors, and a screwdriver.
