New scam??
I have a car for sale on the Forum, Car Guru and CL.
Three times this week I have received an email telling me how much so and so loves my car.
They are willing to purchase it if I get a history report from some site I have never heard of.
Ain't happening. I told all 3 of them that they can take the car to a Chevy dealer and have it checked out at their expense.
Never hear from them again.
Anyone else getting something similar?
Probably a scam. The website would probably ask you for personal information plus your card number for payment of the service. Then they would have all they need to scam you.
They are trying to get you to buy a history report from the website they work for. I have gotten these calls the last two cars that I sold. Pretty annoying.
I got this weird email today from a guy I have never heard of, or contacted. Does anyone know this guy? Crazy mileage and price!!!

"2014 - Chevrolet Corvette is still available for sale. Vehicle details below:
Vehicle Year: 2014
Vehicle Mileage: 2,835
The price is $16,000.The title is clear and it can be registered in any state without problems. The vehicle is paid off and there is no lien on the title and also this is not a salvage title. Where are you located? Attached you have more pictures with the vehicle."
He also sent 24 photos of a beautiful Crystal Red Metallic LT3 Stingray Convertible with black interior, chrome wheels, and the window sticker.

It's just a fact of life now. There are crooked people everywhere. You just have to grin and bear it if you use the internet to try to sell stuff.
I sold a motorcycle a couple of years ago and within a few minutes of it being posted the scammers started up. It's so obvious.
Beware and stay alert!
Yes, agreed it's a scam I'm sure once you reply there would be some unique quirk that you send money (probably Western Union) to him to hold the car and poof your money and the seller disappear.
I also listed a car on Craigslist this week. Within 1 hour I got the 2 text about purchasing that bogus knock off carfax report. After selling many motorcycles on CL, the only 'real' buyer is the guy that picks up the phone and calls you. This is the only good way to vet out a buyer, ask a lot of questions. Common sense goes a long way. I don't bring people to my house. We meet at the local Home Depot where they have security camers. I've even met a few guys at my local Police department. They have a specific spot in the parking lot for making 'personal sale transactions'. Again, if its too good to be true, it's a scam.
For sale car scams are out of control, if you post your vehicle for sale on ebay or another online site you will find it posted on dozens of sites trying to sell your car. None of which you have anything to do with
Seems too good to be true. You looking to upgrade to a C7?
Yeah, the minute I read the "ad" I knew it was a scam, and too good to be true. Seen that before. I looked up similar used 2014s and they go for about $40K.
I am thinking about a C7 upgrade and have been looking online. I have a specific (used) 2018 C7 GS in mind with low mileage, but I'm really waiting for C7s to be dumped on the market when the C8s hit the showroom floors.
Update: I replied to his email only asking where he was located... this what I got back, oh boy!: "... I am sorry for my late answer but I think we are about 7 hours ahead of you. You have to know this is a private deal. Before we can move further with our conversation you have to know the story about my vehicle (don't get me wrong please). I live in Poland, and the vehicle it's also located in Poland, Europe. I bought this vehicle from US last year at the time when I was there (I stayed 10 months in US with my job). Because of the Poland's new regulations is hard for me to register the vehicle here, and I think the best option for me now is to sell it back to US because the vehicle still has a US title on it and I think will be much easy for the new owner with the registration process (will be just like a normal registration in your state)..."
He slipped up on the last email. His auto-signature was left on the email and his dental office address is in Amsterdam but he says he lives in Poland... a long commute!

I had to stop a Co-Worker from falling for this scam,He was about to buy a classic VW bus for 10,000. I told him in the condition it was in that's 30-50 grand worth of VW,no one sells it for 10grand. Yea CL can bring out the weirdos, When I sold my old Toyota pickup with a blown motor, some dude wanted to trade me an AK 47 for itI told him I didn't need 2 of them.
If anything seems slightly sketch, it definitely is when dealing with CL. Never pay any fees for the buyer. Talk all business over the phone, using email only as the initial meeting place. Accept only cash and check the bills with a counterfeit detecting pen. Its also good if you request a withdrawal receipt to show they got the money from a bank recently.

Yeah, i have sold a ton of cars of CL and they are getting better at hiding their crap but you can still smell a scam. The obvious "auto-fill" texts/emails, the offers w/o seeing it, texts from an area code on the opposite coast, etc. It is SUPER irritating. 2 months ago i sold my sons 03 corolla and i counted 17 scam/fake inquiries in the first 2 days about the car (yeah, i counted!) and then on inquiry 18 i got a text from a "genuine" person and she bought it the next day! (and yes OP-as others have said they get a commission if u purchase an h.r. from "their" site. scammer scum!)

Yeah I was looking for a car once and answer an add. We went back and forth many times. Finally ask were it was located to look at .Was told on a military base. I told him I could fly out their and inspect since I got clearance. Never hear back for him
