I was at the gym, parked at the end of the parking lot far away from other cars to avoid this very situation, and some moron plows into my car anyway.
He did wait for me to come out to tell me what happened and give me his insurance info... waiting to hear from his adjuster. What can I expect here ? Will they compensate me for the loss of value to the car even after it's fixed ?
Holy cow! Did he give you a reason he hit it? I mean, I've seen many a C5 on this forum hit while parked but it is usually from the front where they couldn't see the C5 and backed into it. As for the loss, depends on your states laws on depreciated value. The damage isn't that bad, I seriously doubt the frame is bent in any way. Best wishes in your repairs
Since the insurance companies are involved this event will be shown in the Carfax. As a result the vehicle will have diminished value meaning it's worth less than it was before even if properly repaired. Many states allow compensation for diminished value and other do now acknowledge it. Demand it from the adjuster and see that happens. Good luck!
When I was looking at C5's to purchase, I first looked at ones with no accidents but also looked at ones with accidents from private owners that had all the paper work, pictures, etc. to show the repairs were done right. Like any used car, I rather have one that was not in an accident. But if I found the car that matched all my must haves but had a minor accident and repairs done right, I would make an offer on the car. So even if your state does not allow for diminished value, take the necessary steps to document the repairs for future buyers. JMHO.

Sad to see pics of the damage - very unfortunate that your car got hit. Good for the other guy though for sticking around and accepting responsibility. As for diminished value, will depend on your state and the insurance companies. Some may allow it.

No, I had it intentionally parked out in an isolated spot with no other cars any where around. He was in a Ram... I guess he just wasn't paying attention.
It's only a fender & a door, maybe $1,000 plus paint & labor. Less than $2k probably A complete repaint is $7k at a dealer.
I agree, $10k might be a little high but here in Iowa, a used door, fender (personally, I'd go widebody), and paint would run about $2500. Now if there is other damage, well, price would only go up. As for a whole new repaint, around here it would be $10K easily.
Unfortunately parking in an isolated area or 'away' from everybody puts us at a greater risk because people who are backing up, or moving around a parking lot, just aren't expecting anyone to be there so they aren't really paying as much attention as they should. I don't really know anybody who was able to successfully argue for diminished value except on vehicles that were less than a year old. Hopefully you have greater success.
