Hi all. I've been living in the c4 portion of the forum.... until my 92 c4 was totaled by a tree. Now I'm thinking about looking at buying an 02-04 z06. I've been doing alot of reading and read about weak valve springs and the Electronic steering collumn lock. Is there anything I'm missing? Any advice is appreciated!

The late 03-04 didn't have valve spring issues and the column lock is a common issue in a C5. Everything else is pretty solid so just check for maintenance items such as fluid exchange etc.

The 04's had the fuel filter moved to the gas tank and some members with 04's experienced fuel leaks from the hose that connects the two tanks together.

The column lock issue is easily solved with the install of an LMC5 from Compliance Parts.

Check out the Sticky threads in the C5 General and C5 Tech Sections for more info on the cars.

They are alot of fun, great power and economy...there is expense that looms around 70k miles, clutch, torque tube rebuild, stuff like that and it depends on how its been driven and cared for. The rearend is stout, the t56 was the second most robust version behind the Viper model. Brakes were adequate but upgrades are available. Its good to keeo the clutch fluid topped off and fresh to avoid accumulation of debris that accelerates slave wear. They have their quirks...like opposite of a c4...very easy to change the rear bulbs and difficult to do the fronts. If you havent driven one..do it. If you find one you like..dont be afraid to come in with a low offer, its a buyers market right now

As previously noted, the Crossover fuel line is a problem in VIN #'s 45110258 to 45125500. If the VIN falls within this range, the estimated repair cost is about $2500 +. It may have already been corrected by GM or the owner.

Good luck on finding your car.
