I don’t see a real correlation between the new C8 and the prices of C5,s. I would think that most C5 customers are in the market for a 10 to 20k sports/ get car. Most people in that market aren’t likely considering a C8 even at the surprisingly low entry price of 60k. The only way I see a big price drop will be if current owners show up at dealerships with their C5s wanting to trade them in for a C8. JMHO yours may vary. I’d say current C7 inventory may see some deep discounts unless the dealers elect to do their LOA add on stickers to the C8.
I disagree. Not one of these will be zero option $60,000 cars, most will probably be in the $72,000 range. Then you have 2-3-4 years before they even begin showing up on the used market, and probably in the $55k-$65k range or higher. Not many people are cross-shopping $15k vs $55k used sports cars. I think C5s will just continue along the normal depreciation curve, but not falling as far as C4s have.
I agree with JeffNReg. GM is not going to build the $60,000 base car unless someone orders one that way. Most will be optioned out at $70,000 - $75,000. A low mileage, well taken care of C5 is a great value. The C5 still looks great and modern 22 years after it’s initial introduction and has the largest interior space of any Corvette.
I like the way my C5 looks for the same reason I like the way my wife looks; Curves, not edges.
I admire the technical advances and the power and the etc. but I determined long ago that the older car just works for me.
I owned a '97 and the 2 advances in my 2003 I really like are the HUD and the F55 suspension. I also got 5 more horses but 345 was more than enough to get me in trouble years ago.
All that said, though, I think the C8's best quality will be making the tent larger. All those people who have lusted for NSX's, R8's or 488's now have a chance to see what the home team does in that ballpark.
From one of the old kids, "welcome!" to the new kids.
I was skeptical, but that new C8 looks amazing! I agree, we'll probably see $6,000 C5s in the next 2 years.
Man at this point, why the hell would one even sell their C5? Especially if it's still in good condition and delivers good thrills/$ and more thrills than headaches, why the hell sell it for a miserable $6k? I wouldn't unless absolutely, unequivocally necessary.

I agree. Obviously the Zs will hold some value, but higher mileage bases that are bringing sub 9k now, will only go down when the price of the C7 is slashed (and it will be), which in turn will kill the market for the C6 and so on and so on. I don't think we'll see the $2,500 C5 like we do on a regular basis with C4s, but 6 grand? I'd bet money on it.
Would I love to get a C8, yes, but I can't see parting with $60k-$70k for a weekend driver, I do see a used C7 in the future, but there are to many vacations and other things that are more important to me to buy a C8.

This is basically the only reason I’ve decided to invest heavily back into the car this year. It’s not worth selling...even now.
The only thing got me thinking about selling, even though mine is low miles and in great shape is the dwindling critical electrical component parts. Steering sensors, ecbm and such
Well, I'll be the first to admit that the new C8 is priced considerably, like a whole lot, lower than I thought, at least for a base model. Time will tell on optioned up models. I still don't think nice C5's will go much lower (perhaps wishful thinking on my part?) than they are now. At least, I sure hope not! In the meantime I continue to enjoy my 40k miles black '99 vert 6m. I am admittedly intrigued by the C8 and can't wait to see one in person. From pics and videos the cockpit looks super modern but cramped. I'm looking forward to a visit to the dealer for an in person looksee. Best wishes to all!
