The speed shop said I needed an axle back exhaust system to quiet down my zo6. The problem is they want 2000 bucks to put a Kooks axle back system in. Isn't that a bit spendy for the installation? I just want mufflers put on my super loud car. Can I fit mufflers into the down pipe in the back? Should I go to the muffler shop for an estimate and have a conversation? I guess that would be the obvious answer but right now money is a big issue. What do you guys think? Thanks in advance Scott

$2000 is an absolute rip off!!! If you only need an axle back, find a used factory Ti exhaust (factory Z06) and install it yourself. It's not hard, at all. It *can* be done with jack stands, but much easier with a lift (or a pit). You'll need about 36" (close to that if not exactly 36") to get the pipes up and over the axle. I've seen used Ti axle backs for a few hundred dollars.
Google DNA axel back. $300 bucks and they look and work great on my car. Can’t tell them apart from Borla except it does not say Borla on the tips. The purists here will not like it because it is a Chinese knock off. I put them on myself and they are fine.

Thanks so much! Yeah these guys are high end definitely! Do they really think people are THAT stupid! There's an old man who has a muffler shop I'm going to talk to him about it. I'd do it myself but I can't get my car up that high.

I did it on jack stands about 18-20 inches off the ground. Not too hard. Only problem with he DNA’s was the bolts did not fit. Went to hardware store got some that worked and no problems after that.

What is DNA? I'm old I'm hoping the guy just straight piped the axle back, hence no mufflers. The car has headers so probably different size piping? Apparently the cats are still there or high performance cats? I'll have to get under the car and get a better look at everything and take some pictures. I found a pretty nice new axle back for 300 bucks on sale right now. The prices of these systems varies widely. Thanks for your input

DNA is just the name of a company that sells it. You can find it at Walmart.com and eBay. maybe amazon also.

There are plenty of options out there for a good set of mufflers that will quiet the car down. Start off by searching the C5 Parts for Sale section for a nice used setup. Can save you a bunch of money.
Some of the top, name brand catback systems are pretty expensive, but $2K does seem a little too much.
