I took a short trip yesterday in my 2000 C5, to pick up some lunch and wouldn't you know it, a car coming the other way, kicked up a rock that chipped my windshield.
It's small enough to appear as though it can be repaired but wanted to ask if the HUD specific windshield will present any issues. It's in the center, so not affecting the HUD.
Also, is there a company you can recommend (southern central MI)?
I had a small stone chip when I had my 2001 Convertible. It was located in the lower portion of the windshield close to the where the HUD projected. Called my insurance company (State Farm) and they recommended Safelite. They came to my home and took care of it. Could barely see where the chip was originally. No cost to me. Insurance company would rather pay the small cost for the repair instead of replacing a windshield. Suggest you have it taken care of ASAP so it doesn’t become a bigger issue.
I'll throw a vote for Safelite as well. Luckily not for the Vette but for other cars. I've used them three or four times and the results have always been most satisfactory. They come to the house for the repair so no inconvenience to you.
Before you go to safe light let me tell you about my experience
I went to safe lite with 3 chips . for some reason after they clean out the chip they use an auto center punch in the chip
They pour the epoxy in and polish it when finished
3 days later I look at one of the chips and it has started cracking from the center punch mark out in three different legs
I go back because they advertise lifetime warranty and find out that once they fix a chip they cannot fix it again.
Corvette windshield with a hud from safe light is $1700 .00
The warrantee? they will take the cost of repair off of the $1700.00 bill for a new glass

I do not see why the HUD glass could not be repaired the same as a non-HUD glass. Could be wrong though as I’ve never had a chip fixed on a HUD glass. Safelite should be able to tell you for sure.
