Do any of you guys use Stabil to keep your fuel fresh through the winter? Mine will sit for at least 4 months straight. I may get a few days where I can get my car out but that'll be about it. Thanks Scott
I think a lot of that depends on your location and your conditions.
I've never used any fuel additives in all my time on this earth and have not had any problems with stuff not starting in the spring. From lawnmowers to cars.
In answer to your question, yes, put in Stabil. I've used the stuff in my cars for winter storage for well over 20 years and always had them start right up. It's cheap insurance.
I only run 93 octane in mine, Shell or Exxon. Usually in late October or early November I run as much as I can out and start filling up with ethanol free premium until about March-April. The ethanol free is stable enough to sit through the winter months.
We get enough nice days here in St. Louis throughout the winter that the vette never sits for more than a couple of weeks. I think this past winter was the longest she’s had to sit with all the salt on the road.... about 2 months.
Why are you storing? Drive it. But only when there are non snow/salt roads. The cars are made to drive, not store. JMHO.
I won't drive mine in the winter. The other problem you have is sand on the road and a deicer that the DOT uses. I will drive it IF I can.I just don't know how much that will be, it depends on how hard the winter is. If I use Stabil I don't have to worry about it.
Store it with a full tank to minimize condensation and water in the fuel. And adding Techron to it before filling up would be good to clean off the fuel level sensors.
