Default What would you do?

Hey guys,

So I’ve had my C5 for almost 10 years and have loved every minute of it. I mean who wouldn’t right?

Lately I’ve been contemplating moving on. We all love our C5’s of course but if you had the following choices, what would you do?

C6 - 427 vert (2013-2014 low mileage ones have been <50K)
C7 - <50K vert (they are definitely out there and maybe more will be entering the market with the intro of C8).

Les

Only you can make that decision. My advice would be to drive examples of each and see if one of them "speaks" to you.

I have an 03 Z06 and my brother has a 13 Grand Sport. I prefer my Z06 which is unusual for me. I typically trend towards newer and more sophisticated. Not the case on this one. I'm even happy with the stock radio....go figure. My only complaint is not having Bluetooth.

Absolutely. Great advice. When and IF I make a move that’s exactly what I’d do.

I was was more curious as to what people thought for themselves.

Between the two choices given, I'd go 427 all day, every day. More exclusive, better long-term investment, better looking (subjective, of course), and faster. What's not to love?

427 all day long. I have a Z51 C7 and prefer my C5Z, infact I drive it quite a bit more. With that being said I'm not a fan of the C6 or C7. I'd save some more pennies and go C8 honestly.

Another vote for the 427. However, if I were to sell my C5Z, I'd seriously consider buying a new C8.

If I was contemplating buying a C-6 or C-7 for cash, I'd probably take the cash and do something outrageous to my C-5. Maybe try and shoe horn a 2019 ZR-1 powerplant into it. It would end up being probably a one-of-a-kind. Yeehaw! Can you imagine the fun you could have with that set up??

Didn't the 427 have quite a big problem with the heads?

What was the issue? Was it covered by warranty?

The replies are definitely interesting to read. Keep going please.

I am surprised though. When I see peeps coming on the forum asking which C5 to buy, many respond by saying least amount of miles and newest one you can afford.

Not so with generation to generation I guess.

The 427 certainly is a more exclusive vehicle, but the C7 is an awesome car. A totally different experience than the C5.

However, the idea of waiting for a C8 is something to consider.

Wow! That is a beautiful vert! Just speaking for myself, I prefer the C5 ('99 6m vert) over the C6 and C7. If I wanted to "freshen" or upgrade my vette experience I would spend the ching on a supercharger install. I did this before on another ride with a Procharger install with all the proper tidbits. Absolutely the best mod I ever did with one of my cars. Feels stock until you jump on the go pedal. Absolutely dependable, never had a problem with it and it increased the fun factor substantially. I'm still considering going that same route with my C5.

I'm going to go in a different direction with my suggestion.

Though I agree with the move to the LS7, maybe you use style as your guide rather than HP.

If you like the C6 or C7 styling and performance, then that can be your decision-maker. However, if you are like many that find the C5 a styling winner, you could spend some money on performance upgrades and enjoy the old and new.

Just trying to help.

Nobody here can make that choice for you. You need to do what makes you happy-but as mentioned above-do your research.

Buying a C6 with an LS7?-gotta make sure the heads are taken care of.

Buying a C7? If automatic-make sure you realize the issues that they have had with the AFM/Transmissions/Torque Converters.

Many have experienced valves dropping essentially destroying the engine. To be on the safe side I would search for one that has the heads reworked already.

They are only asking about one generation instead of multiple. Really it boils down to what people prefer as far as driveablitly. If they want all the fancy tech, comfortable ride, and fantastic interior then I would recommend a C7. For someone who is looking for a little better quality and better starting point then go C6 Grand Sport. For someone who wants the raw in your face fun Corvette that is simple in design, yet still timeless go C5Z hands down.
