They are only asking about one generation instead of multiple. Really it boils down to what people prefer as far as driveablitly. If they want all the fancy tech, comfortable ride, and fantastic interior then I would recommend a C7. For someone who is looking for a little better quality and better starting point then go C6 Grand Sport. For someone who wants the raw in your face fun Corvette that is simple in design, yet still timeless go C5Z hands down.

Sold my C5 Vert and bought a C7 and I never looked back cause the C7 just blew me away. About a year later I bought my fiance a C6 - so I know the C5, C6 and C7 very well. Regardless how rare the 427 is (and its an amazing C6), I would take a C7 all day long. The C6 is not that big of a "jump" from a C5. Sure the 427 is super fast, and gorgeous, but its still a C6 and to me, if Im going to another Vette, I want it to be different.
The C7 is far more superior over a C6 in almost every category. If speed is your only gauge for getting your next car - then the 427 is your car...but if you want the very best Vette experience (overall), the C7 is truly the only choice.
What would I do? I would keep the c5. If I had some extra cash I would get another c5 and build it, so I could have a stock-ish one and a built one.
Wife asks me "do we really need three Vettes" I reply we have the best of all worlds, a 2002 stock Z 06, a nicely modded 99 Coupe, and a Beast, highly modified C 6 Z 06 !!!!!!!!!
I to sold my 02 Z06 this year and before that had a 01 convertible, really liked both cars, I moved into a 14 Z51 convertible triple blk
never considered a C6, just don't like them, I think the 427 vert would hold value better that a C7, but the C7 vert IMO is so much better
My C5 is now 20 years old and I guess it's starting to show it's age. I get in it and drive it and there are no controls on the steering wheel, no back up camera, it definitely old school.
So recently I bought a 2015 Camaro with all of the options just to see if I would keep the 16 year newer Camaro or the 1999 Corvette. The Camaro was nice but in the end I kept the Corvette, it's just the better car.
So, to kinda answer your question, I've decided to keep the C5 for at least 1 more year, then sell it and 1 more year later get a new C8. This gives me time to save and if things just don't work out I could go with a used C7 or C6. My old plan which never happened was to upgrade to a C6 because I just like them, but now I'll be patience and wait for a 2021 C8.

Well, for me personally.... Had a Nassau blue 99 c5 coupe. Moved to a C6. Then a C7. Annnndd... Now I'm back in a gorgeous 03 Anniversary Vert. And I'm happy. (Oh.. and my first was a C4 coupe). After getting back into a C5, I realized I had been given a second chance and was at home again. So I'd keep your beautiful C5.
Now..... The c8 may be calling to me. However, I may just end up keeping my c5 along side it.
