Below is how fenders were meant to be widened. Other people may have other opinions, but those other opinions are wrong.

Speaking of the C5.R, some of those deeper front vents would be awesome. An easy way to tie them into the wheel well like the actual car to reduce pressure would make them even more desirable for the people who actually want to race with the kit. They look mean, stay true to the C5 asthetic, and could be functional

I remember seeing a member here who had 9K Racing make a one-off flared rear fender with the C6Z-style brake cooling duct incorporated into it. I thought that came out looking pretty sharp, and with some creative ducting could allow airflow for rear-mounted coolers. Other than that, I would love to see some flared front fenders that widened the vent (ie. the C5R design)

We don't need something too radical or too wide. 2 in is probably enough. However we desperately need something for the fronts of these cars. Especially for those of us who aren't build drag cars and also need something to cover wider front tires or off-set wheels for our vette nuts/Part Shop Max steering angle kits.
The ancient old car fart C5 collectors don't like "bolt on" style flares but the fact is you really don't need to cast an entire fender out of fibreglass or carbon fiber (L5, Corvette Creations etc). Bolt on is fine. If someone wants it to flow into the body they have two other fender manufacturers to pick from OR they can take bolt on flares to the body shop and get them to fill it.
Ignore the rear fenders on the S2000- More interested in the front fenders- Wider and open at the back. Very simple design. Would work perfectly on the C5 without disrupting any of the lines on the front end. Could possibly also tie into the side vent the car already has. Brand is J's Racing. Food for thought.
Honestly, a ton of inspiration can be picked up by looking at wide body kits being offered for a similarly designed vehicle (The FD RX7) in terms of fenders and front bumper. I think the Rocket Bunny fenders are a hair too wide but again food for thought.
The MK4 Supra also has some incredible wide body kits. The one below is a bit extreme but note how the fenders aren't super aggressive. Also note the FRONT BUMPER.
We need a front bumper that isn't the damn TigerFish that offers more cooling options for these cars. The front license plate holder on the C5 looks like *** and for those of us living in a country that doesn't require front license plates- I seriously think it's something that could be designed around (See above RX7). If your state requires a front plate- I'm sure a bracket could be fabricated.
An alternative could be the "overlay" splitter offered by ACP (similar to what's been quoted above) but opened up a bit for cooling.
And the best part is all of this can be completely functional for track duties. No fake vents or scoop.

Just out of curiosity, what is the functional purpose of the front fender being "open" behind the tire? I mean, besides for sand-blasting the bodywork behind it, of course. Is there any kind of aero advantage, or what?

Hey, not everyone who likes the riveted Bushwacker flare RoCkEt BuNnY super JDM driftboi flares is a millennial with ear gauges, skinny jeans, and a flat-brimmed "Stancenation" hat. Some old guys like them, too. And, I am also sure there are plenty of young car enthusiasts who hate them. Regardless, I am sure the manufacturer will only want to produce a kit that many people will actually want, as opposed to a few.
