Less the chrome strip, a C7 looks even more like a Viper in head on view, as the last Vipers also had a blacked out grille area.
As to black wheels on a C5, years ago there was someone on here who had a silver C5 coupe, black wheels with polished rims, and the top and "hoop" behind the top in gloss black. It looked really great, IMO.

Black wheels work with some cars for sure, when you are spending 3K for quality wheels, most would want them to be seen at any distance and under the most rudimentary photographer. Black wheels seem to fade quickly at a distance even in person.. Right on top of them, they are fine.
Again this is discussion.... almost any wheel would be a vast improvement over stock wagon wheels , so the result can easily justify the cost. I'm trying to decide if I can get 3000 dollars worth of upgrade with a different wheel. And still keep the personality of my C7 intact.

Could be an Evil Twin twin. Hate black wheels on anything - looks cheep.
I could never do the CCW thing. For one they remind me too much of the 90s which was a very bad time in the aftermarket automotive world, and for two, I will never in my life own another set of polished wheels.
The best looking CCWs are the ones that have been powdercoated. Even black. I think your car would look awesome with the CCWs in black and I know may others would agree.
I remember CCWs being all the rage in the GTO world as well.

That is very true too. For such an expensive wheel, I sure see a lot of vettes with them. A set of gloss black lip/satin black center 18" Classics is still gorgeous
The choice of wheel design and color is very subjective. Balance and vision are important.
my last three cars and their wheels.

2 color balance... wheels are well defined. 2 color balance... wheels are well defined lots of carbon flash ( black ) real estate together with the torch red. Wheels are not well defined... A 3rd color would not be as balanced. I dont want my C7 to look like my C5. Although I think my C5 is magnificent
Black wheels can definitely "cheapen" a car's appearance---if the black wheels are the wrong style and are on the wrong car. Likewise, really shiny chrome or polished wheels can also "cheapen" a car's appearance. Especially modern car designs. For example, you won't find many new Lamborghinis running around on fully polished wheels, and those cars are nowhere near "cheap".
As Evil Twin has mentioned a few times, the wheel design and car design make all the difference in determining if black wheels look "right" on a car (personal opinion aside, of course). I mean, can you imagine how ridiculously silly this perfect McLaren P1 would look with chrome wheels?
