So I've owned a C4, C5, C6 and C7. I sold my C7 to go back to a C5 (50th anniversary vert). I enjoyed each and every one of them. But when I parted ways with my first c5 for the C6 I felt like I had made a mistake. I didn't let it bother me and moved on over the years. When I had the chance to pick any Vette I wanted after the C7, I picked the C5 again for many reasons. (Too numerous to mention). And I felt like I was given a second chance. Then the C8 is rolled out and I started to get that 'upgrade' itch again. However, I am currently Vette sitting a friend's very nice C7 while he is out of the country. Driving it around for a while I realized that yes, the new ones are very very nice and there is absolutely nothing bad about it... It doesn't invoke the same feelings that a C5 does for me. And that has made me cool off a bit on the c8. I'm sure it'll be wonderful as they all are. I just can't see me parting ways with my C5 again. Maybe I'll just have to have two vettes. Though the inevitable divorce may not be worth it. 🙂 My driveway today.
To the OP. Im sure you have heard the old saying you don't know what you got till its gone. Welcome back you got a real looker. I have owned this one for 21 years. There have been 3 new models released. But it is hard for me to say goodby. Great car only 50.000 Miles. Proud to be original owner of a 21 year old C5.

I have also been a C5 owner who "upgraded" to a C6. Even though the C6 was a convertible, I still have to give the C6 the edge in the looks department. However, that LS3 is amazing.
I was C7 shopping after being vetteless for over a decade when I came across my current C5. It felt at home the first time I got in and fired it up. A few minor mods bring them to 21 century tech/convenience.
My first vette was a C3, which I love the body style but not the outdated 70's feel when driving. I sold it many years ago for a C5 vert. After several years, I bought a C6 Z06 and kept the C5 for a little over a year. The C6 is highly modified now for autocross and I often tell myself did I make a mistake when we did all this to the car, since the C5 seemed to fit me better. Then we bought a C5 Z06 and sold the C5 vert and I can say the C5Z is my favorite...not for power and torque, but for the feel of the car, the body style and the overall vette experience...different strokes for different folks, but the C5Z is my all time favorite.
ps...We have 2 C5's and a C6Z, we keep them all because it's so hard to choose!

Nothing wrong with having an affection for the C5 - it is a great looking car and a sure performance bargain. And the AE example is, IMO, a beautiful car.
I too like the Z FRC look. Had an 01 coupe, sold it and ordered a 16 stingray and moved onto C7 17 Grand sport and then in Feb. I picked up an 03 Z06. I drive the Z more than the GS. All great cars some more appealing than others.
