Question updated with specifics: Does anyone have a suggestion for how to mount a GoPro for track days? The specific instructions are: "Any video equipment must be rigidly and securely mounted, metal-to-metal, or an approved suction cup mount. The camera must also be tethered in the event the mount should fail. The event coordinators and instructors have the discretion to ask cameras and other equipment be removed if they feel it is blocking the driver’s vision or encouraging inappropriate or unsafe driving."
we use the suction cup ,has not come off yet !!! top of the car where we can reach the record button, C6 Z06 and a C 5 z06 (three seasons and lots of donuts !!!!)
I've done track days at numerous tracks with several different organizations and I have always used a suction cup mount on the inside of the windshield. I've also ran a gopro auction cupped onto the outside of the rear window, been well over 150 mph hundreds of times and never had an issue with it coming off. I've even seen guys suction them onto side body panels at the same speeds without a problem. None of the organizations had a problem with these suction mounts, anywhere on the cars.
due to it's infinite positioning capability. Has been absolutely outstanding for everything I've used it for, from the Vette to various mounting points on a Polaris RZR XP1000 Turbo.
There's a LOT of aftermarket options out there. Some of the easier to use ones are the bases that you mount with the two sided tape and just leave wherever they are. They're solid mounting points and work well.

I've had mine up to 180ish with the suction cup and it didn't show sny signs of falling off but the arm that holds the camera did shift and screwed up the shot lol... I'm not sure if it was a fault of the mount or user error and I didn't tighten it enough... I don't know if gopro's have changed much in the past few years but I don't really like mine to be honest
