Default Ceramic Pads...

Installed C6 Z06 brakes and new OEM brake pads. OEM's got dusty like crazy...constantly washing my wheels...moved to ceramic pads...now with a few miles they screech, squeal and make noise like an old milk truck. Any suggestions?

Did you change or resurface the rotors when you switched to the new pads?

It's one of the tradeoffs with ceramic pads, unfortunately.

Ride around the block dragging your brake pedal. Sounds like they have not seated yet.
Good luck

Did you use some break lubricant? If not, you should and you can get it at any car parts store.

In a good way or bad way. I just ordered metallic pads and will put them on this weekend.

In a bad way. Put your metallic pads on and enjoy the dirt. Dirt means the brakes work. In my experience, ceramic pads suck.

I use Hawk 5.0 pads with DBA slotted rotors on both cars. Great stopping power, low dust, best of both worlds.

If you want a quiet low dust street pad I would recommend the 1 piece Carbotech 1521 pads.

Part numbers.
F: CT1185-S 1521
R: CT1185R-S 1521

http://ampdautosport.com/brake-pads/corvette/

The Carbotech Bobcat 1521™ is our high performance street compound that is our most successful compound. The Bobcat compound is known for its awesome release and modulation, along with unmatched rotor friendliness. Like our AX™ & XP™ line of compounds, Bobcat 1521™ is a Ceramic based friction material offering minimal rotor damage and non-corrosive dust. Bobcat 1521™ offers outstanding performance, even when cold, low dusting and low noise with an excellent initial bite. This compound’s virtually perfect linear torque production provides incredible braking force without ABS intervention. Bobcat 1521™ operating range starts out at ambient and goes up to 900°F. Bobcat 1521™ is suitable for ALL street cars, perfect for your tow vehicle, police cruiser. The Bobcat 1521™ compound has been found to last two-three times longer than OE pads you can purchase at a dealership or national retailer. That’s one of the beauties of Carbotech Ceramic brake compounds. Bobcat 1521™ is NOT recommended for any track use.

You may want to take a look at this Post for some interesting insider's info about that. Original post below:

We did a lot testing on pad compounds in the original C5 design. Some times that extra ten feet of stopping power will save you from becoming trapped under the back end of a jack knifed tractor trailer in front of you. I use the original design because I know the original testing AC Delco Semi Metallic Carbon Ferrous. My car has 100K miles on it, and I would never compromise cleaner for less stopping power. My rotors and wheels have never been seen on the road with brake dust on them. Ive never spent more than five minutes to dust off my four wheels.

80,000 miles on these rotors in this photo, rotors and wheels are 17 years old.

Ive been telling people about ceramic pads for at least 15 years here.. Its common sence.. and like I always say.. everything is a trade off.
the reason ceramic pads have less dust is because they are much harder. they require the pads to do much more work.. increase rotor temperature and make the rotors " Work Hard" … One of the best brake pad compounds uses is the soft pad compound found in BMW brake pads.. they dust more then any other pad out there. Ive always used carbon ferrous pards… they are soft, they dust, and they stop. the dust insures that the pads won't fade.. the dust insures the brakes will do what they are suppose to do.. Ceramic pads just like the ceramic bricks found on the space shuttle are designed to handel the heat of re-entry .. they are hard for a purpose. Its not for its stopping ability.. ) soft pads have a high coefficient of friction. reduce brake fade, heat distortion, and rotor discoloration. Problem is Ceramic is a buzz word and a marketing strategy.. the amount of ceramic can vary from a very little the a lot.. the more ceramic the less they dust and the more work it puts on the rotors.

Ceramic pads have their place on the track where stopping is essential and the pads can handle the 1500 F degrees of track events. track brakes do not belong on a street car. The softer the better,
Bill

80,000 miles on these rotors. no heat discoloration or warp

Many people have seen my rotors with 80,000 miles.. no dark heat distortion or warp, they are polished like a mirror because the pads I use are soift.. Ac Delco Carbon Ferrous. Al that squeal and squeak, and nails on the chalk board are due to the heat created by ceramic pads.. this heat tempers the rots and make them hard, thus creating an hard metal to hard pad scenario and will make more noise than I would even want. It embarrassing to hear that and it make your car appear to be a cheap, and a poorly maintained car.
I spent 3 minutes to clean my wheels before I puit my car away.

Bad way, it takes longer to stop. Came upon an accident and hit the brakes and didn't think I would stop in time, but fortunately did. I was doing a 120mph.
