A C4 is between 23 and 35 years old.

A C5 is between 15 and 22 years old.

A C6 is between 6 and 14 years old.

Buy as new a Corvette as you can afford.

If it's between a C4 and C5 it's a C5. They just got better every series. Same with C6 and C7. I jumped from a C5 Z06 to a C7 Grand Sport. Quantum leap. Amazing.

I'd agree with getting the newest you can afford but between a C4 and C5, a C5 is much nicer from a ride and performance point of view. Here are some threads that are well worth reading. The contain a TON of information.

Good luck!

I had a 96 C4 and wasn't too happy with it. It seemed to have a lot of rattles that couldn't be located along with other issues. It was a low mileage used car when I bought it too. My wife didn't like to drive it either.
I was kind of hesitant about buying my current 03 C5 convertible because of the issues with the C4 but I found out they were totally different vehicles.
We really like the C5 and probably will have it for a long time.
Good luck!

I spent a long time wanting a C4 because I thought they looked retro. I have kinda eclectic tastes - I like square body trucks etc. But I ended up getting a C5 a few weeks ago because the styling is timeless (I can't believe I own such a pretty car), the interior is new enough not to feel like garbage (the gauge cluster especially), and the performance is plenty for me to be happy with (for now).

If you get a targa the top comes off without tools (compared to the c4) and the LS is nigh indestructible. It also has modern conveniences like airbags, abs, and traction control that make the wife happy with my purchase

But in the end, get out and drive both! Get the one you like most.
