1) Got the above message....I know that there was an issue with earlier C5's. Chev sez that it is not an issue with 2002 Z06. They have cleared the code, I expect to get the message again. Has anybody seen this?
2) I am getting a popping noise in the passenger rear, sounds like suspension to me, Chev sez....it is gear clash???? I have heard gear clash before....don't think is gear clash, Has anybody heard this before?
I had my Z shipped from TN to CA and when it got here, the "service column lock" message came on when I put in the key. Had not done this before, maybe something during shipping? It started and ran fine but the steering wheel wouldn't lock when I removed the key. Took it to local dealer and has been fine since.
The issue has never been addresed, and ALL of the C5's do it........( the problem is NOT fixable, meaning....there is NO cure, and one's NEVER coming, at least for '97/'04's).
A good friend told me how to GET around this issue, IF you got stranded...........( column locked).
Turn the key on and YANK the wheel to the right, at the exact same time......
This SHOULD free you up, and get you to the dealer/home/etc....... ;)

Re: Service Column Lock (franksblkZ06)
Just for peace of mind I installed the column lock bypass (took it out of our '98 before we traded it in) in the 2002 Z06, did not want to take a chance of getting stranded.
I have a Zaino customer with an 03' Z06 and his column locked with 167 miles on the speedo in his driveway, it's not nice seeing your two day old car flat bedded away :( Get the column lock bypass. :)
GM did offer a fix that was suppose to stop the column from locking, but it still can lock even after the fix, I know of several people personally that this happened to, the only way to prevent the column from locking is with the bypass. :)
My 02 has a popping noise in the rear end that is noticeable on slow turns. I have yet to take it in to have it looked at, but my guess is the posi lubricant needs to be replaced or more added.
