I got the vette out last Thursday afternoon and cleaned it up some. Just washed off the dust and filled the gas tank. Then drove to a Lowes to pick up some microfiber towels.
I noticed a red late model Z71 behind me but did not think anything of it at the time. So when I pull into Lowes I park way at the end of the parking lot away from everyone else. The red Z71 parks one space over. I think I he is not wanting to get his truck dinged just like I don't want my vette dinged.
The driver of the Z71 gets and says to me, "Great looking car. Do you mind if I take a look at it?"
I don't mind and we talk about vettes and it turns out he is looking for a C5 to buy and had sold a C4 not long ago.
I still really enjoy owning and driving my vette knowing there are a lot newer ones around.
It was good to talk with some one else who likes C5s.
Man, I love my C5. I’m a new owner and after being set on a C6 and making several offers that didn’t pan out, changed my search after an epiphany realizing the beauty of the C5. Timeless, indeed!
Awfully hard to go wrong with a well cared for C5! Still relevant with that smooooth aero type styling, not to mention being the performance car bargain of the century!
By far the most complemented car I've ever owned is the C5. Happens a lot with random strangers. The choppy cam idle has to do with it too. I'm always surprised at the fellows that compliment with "nice cam!"
I bought mine a few weeks ago. I've had a lot of nice cars but this one seems to get the most attention. It has some miles on it but I don't mind. I know it's been reliable. Last female owner had it since 2011. I had a budget of around $15000 but somehow this one seemed to make sense. I bought it for $9300 and I had to have Millenium Yellow. They delivered it from Miami to less than a mile fom my house in VA in an enclosed trailer. We unloaded it at about 1:00 AM on a Sunday morning. I changed oil and filter (Mobile 1 High Mileage) on Monday. The oil life was at 73% but it's cheap insurance. Got it inspected Tuesday. Put ceramic brake pads on the front Tuesday evening. Drove it on a 1000+ mile round trip to OH and back on Wednesday and Thursday. My wife was somewhat apprehensive but I'm somewhat of a risk taker and figured it would be a good test. It had nearly new Michilin Pilot PS3s on it. Got back and fixed the HVAC display. Replaced the glove box and knee bolster. The rest of the interior is very nice and the seats show little to no wear. They may have been recovered? I bought a Z06 exhaust from a forum member that should be delivered Wednesday and I will put them on Saturday. The key fob stopped working and I went through all the sugestions on this forum with no success, so I ordered a new GM one. Hopefully it will pair up with the car. I took the test before I did the homework but every problem so far seems to be common to the C5 family. The car runs like a beast and is extememly clean underneath. Hopefully I will enjoy this for years to come. I agree that this is a timeless design and can't imagine getting anything I would like better.
