In an effort to increase driving skills without completely destroying the ZO6, I've been karting as often as I can get to a track. Last season I was running a KT100 Yamaha. Then, I got a chance to drive a shifter and was hooked! Just finishing assembly of the kart to 80cc Shifter specs. 30hp, 6 speeds, and just 350 lbs with me and a tank of fuel.
Will upgrade to a completely new 125cc (40hp/380lbs) shifter kart as soon as I learn to drive this setup.
If your addicted to driving and are looking to get more seat time, you might want to look at karting. It is a total rip! My driving skills have improved dramatically and I'm learning constantly.
Takes a dedicated kart track or an autocross event. The shifters run on the order of 75mph top speed, and the seat bottom is about 5/8" off the ground, so parking lots and streets are out. We run at kart tracks for the most part, 12 to 14 turns, 1/2 to 7/10th mile courses. Can do a 6/10th mile 12 turn course, with one 500foot straightaway, in 36.5 to 37 seconds per lap (Badger kart club - Dousman WI). Can do the same course in a clutch kart in 40.3. At auto-cross events, karts generally better the fastest car by a couple of seconds.
In September I took the two day karting course at Jim Russell at Sears Point and look forward to going back for another run. They use pretty close to race prepared sprint karts, and I would recommend it to anyone interested in driving. :D
