I am interesting in knowing what part of this message from my 04 manual is not understood by those that put trailer hitches on your C5.
"Towing a Trailer
Your Corvette is neither designed nor intended to tow a
trailer."
It has ample brakes, ample power, and has done just fine.
I'm sure lots of people here have gone over the ~600 pound rated cargo capacity too (and yes, that means driver, passenger, luggage, etc.). Do you work for the DOT?

I had a Reece Shadowmount on my Ranger Pickup a few years back, may still have one or two of the drawbars left after I sold the truck. Unfortunately, I'm down in Austin, Texas at the moment but will be glad to look when I get back to Missouri in a few days if you wish. I thought the Shadowmount was a great idea, barely visible when the tow bar was removed.
As far as towing with a Corvette, they were never designed to tow, but even so could do a great job when necessary. I had a 4:11 geared 340 hp back in the day that I used to tow a ski boat to the lake regularly. LOTS of C2's were used for towing, not just me. I had air shocks on the rear, could just shoot a couple of shots in to level it up if it tended to sit too low. Valley made the best hitch for the C2's bolted directly to the differential and had a pull pin at the rear bumpers to allow the hitch bar to be lowered in order to access the spare tire. I still have one on my '66 that I used regularly to tow my classic Cushman Eagle scooter to the various meets a few years ago. Those Valley hitches are no longer made and are in good demand from the C2 crowd, I sold one extra I had to a fellow on the forum a few years back, and sent sketches and drawings of the same to another guy wanting to fab one up since he had been unable to locate a factory type for his mid-year.

That would be fantastic and I would be happy to buy them from you. I want the extra one for my bike rack so I can actually use the bike and the Corvette at the same time.

I'll check it out, probably be after the weekend, though . . . . . . patience . . . . . . . . .
By the way, thought some guys may never have seen a pic of a trailer hitch on a mid-year, so here's a picture of mine that I've owned around 50 years or so . . . . . .

That's amazing. When I was a kid, my parents worked for Uhaul. We lived on site and managed the whole thing, trucks, storage, hitch installs, all of it.
My dad had a Cutlass with a 2" receiver hitch on it and would tow a boat with it semi-frequently. Beautiful car you have there.
Getting ready to put a Curt 1.25 in. hitch on my 02 Vert so I can install a bike rack. The hitch is hidden very well and came with a black plastic plug when not in use. The thought of putting a hitch on my Vert has never bothered me. More looking forward to driving it to the bike races that I will be participating in.

Exactly why I want it. Not for bike racing, but to bring my bike to some of the nicer areas around here where I can ride. I wish I had a traditional square hitch. I'd be interested in your results.

This is the rack I intend to use, the upward angle should cut me some slack on uneven ground transition. My biggest concern is taillight/brake light visibility when the bike ins on the rack. There may be racks that will mount on top (ball removed) on your set-up. If not, a fab shop could probably figure a way to do it.
Yeah I was planning to use this. Remove the ball from the draw bar and insert this. That's why I was hoping to find a second bar so I didn't need to R&R the ball every track day (when I really need the hitch, to tow tires as above)
