Default Painted calipers

Just curious. I have a new to me 02 convertible. Do the calipers come painted red from factory or is it aftermarket?

A prior owner either painted the calipers or had them powder coated. On a coupe/vert they came in a flat gray color.

These on my car are OEM GM Z06 calipers. They are not aftermarket.

you are obviously the exception. 99% of people with a coupe/convertible with red calipers didn’t go out and buy and install zo6 calipers. But it also looks like your brackets are red and that is definitely aftermarket. Z06 brakes had black brackets. Lol.

Sorry Dude, I don’t know why your trying to pick apart my statement but the brackets are stock that I had powder coated. There may be more oem z06 calipers out there than you can imagine. As a matter of fact my mechanic has the same set up as I do on his 98, except the brackets. They are not hard to come by. When I purchased the calipers almost 10 years ago I paid less than $400. After owning the car for 12 years and having painted the original ones it was an update to new calipers. Sorry it’s hard to believe.

not sure I understand what you’re saying. You’re confusing all of us! Lol. Sounds like you just powdercoated your stock calipers and brackets red like the rest of us. That’s called “aftermarket” coating. On the other hand, z06 calipers come from the factory powdercoated red (but not the brackets).

Sir you are definitely confused. Can somebody out there explain to this gentleman what I have already said about what I have done. I could have not made it any clearer. Is there any one else out there that is confused.

no need to get fired up! Your powdercoating is aftermarket. If I hadn’t pointed it out you wouldn’t have mentioned it.

Alright fellas. He has OEM Z06 calipers, which are red from the factory, and he powdercoated the brackets red, which were not from the factory. You're both right to a degree.

OP, no they are not red from the factory on convertibles. Someone either painted them red or swapped to OEM Z06 calipers. Either way, they are the same caliper otherwise.

You can paint them yourself for about $40 or pay about $400 for OEM Z06 replacements. Whatever money you want to spend to just get the cool factor of red stock calipers, those are your options. I personally much prefer the $40 option

so you painted the calipers? Or you painted the rotors? Still pretty confused. What does “painted the original ones” mean and what does “it was an update to new rotors” mean?

One last time for you. Let me make it easy for you!!!. In 1998 i bought my car new. A 1998 corvette. In the year 2001 they came out with the Corvette Z06. With me so far. I saw the red calipers on the Z06 and like the look. I painted the original Calipers and Brackets. After 12 years with the painted set up, they were starting to wear and discolor. So, after that period of time i updated Calipers, Brackets, Rotors. Calipers- I purchase OEM Z06 red Calipers from a Certified GM dealer. Brackets- were sent out and had power coated. Rotors- The best Baer Rotors they make, Eradispeed Plus [2 piece]. Look them up they are aftermarket. You like that word. Dude I'm tired of your bull. After 24 hours you could not drop it. For some reason you needed to make a point after you made a half *** statement that i called you out on. I wasted too much time with you as it is and your childish approach.

I guess I am one of the 1%. I am not a mechanic and don't want to mess with my brakes. I purchased red calipers to match my Torch Red Corvette and had my mechanic install them. I didn't want to use paint that would eventually wear. I wanted them powder coated. I have had them on the vette at least 12 years and they look as good today as when I put them on.

Someone has some suppressed anger. Glad you got it out of your system. Relax man. Everything will be ok. :-) I’m not sure what you are going through in your personal life that results in you lashing out on the internet, but I assure you, it’s not that bad.

how do you like the rear baer rotors? I looked into purchasing them but I couldn’t get around the fact that the pad only makes contact with part of the rotor thereby leaving a portion of the rotor a different color than the rest. Do you have that condition? Or did you modify it some way to avoid that eye sore? Baer says they are bolt on direct but that’s not exactly true. For that money I would want a perfect fit. I mean, powdercoated gm certified calipers, aftermarket powdercoated brackets, aftermarket wheels, and then that ugly rotor? I’d call up baer and have them build one for you to avoid that issue!

Oops. Nevermind. I can see from the pic you have that issue. I wish baer would fix this issue and I would definitely buy these rotors. I'm just not a fan of this look. That ring on the rotor would drive me nuts!!

Who's looking at the rotors when their on a car that looks like this. That rotor was installed in 2007, not to bad for its age. By the way are you trying to hide your car behind a set to pretty rotors.
